Griese offers apology for 'taco' remark
Saturday, veteran ESPN/ABC college football analyst Bob Griese did what any rookie sports announcer should know is absolutely forbidden in sports television: Refer to race or ethnicity.

During ABC's Ohio State-Minnesota football game Saturday, there was an on-air promotion for the network's NASCAR coverage Sunday. That led to a reference to Colombian driver Juan Pablo Montoya not being among the top five drivers in the NASCAR standings. Which led to Griese saying Montoya isn't in that top five because "he's out having a taco."

1. I dunno...I'm sorta on the fence on this one
I'm thinking, what would have happened if he had said of, for example, Mario Andretti, "He's out having a pizza"? Would that be an ethnic slur?

Does that mean they can make commercials using white people eating KFC but they can't use black people?

And Taco Bell...Chinese actors, but no Hispanics?

I mean, I can see where sometimes people use food to mock someone, but geez, tacos aren't just for Hispanics.

I dunno...I'm not really sure what to make of it.

3. I agree. Stereotyping is not the same as racism
He could've said a Brit was out having fish and chips, and I bet everyone would've laughed. Say something analogous about a minority and it's suddenly racist? I think not!

your title is hilarious. Griese's comment was more unfunny than offensive
