Disgraceful. For the sake of the integrity of the game of baseball, CANCEL the fucking
game, you fucking idiot, Selig.

:wtf:

Selig once again proves that baseball has become a fucking joke!

8. Dude! It's the integrity of the game that I am complaining about.
I realize you are fan of a team that never has to worry about cold weather (at home), though that doesn't explain why your attendance is so low! :D

As I have said elsewhere in the forum, Selig and MLB have been ruining the integrity of the game since they got rid of Faye Vincent.

4. Why wasn't the ALCS game played in the day, and the NLCS game played at night?
Ratings, I bet. Once again good sense is trumped by fucking greed.

9. Blame the NY Yankee bias of the major networks for that one. Can anyone
find ever once when the Skankees had to play a playoff game on the west coast at 8:00pm local time??

11. The only bias is for ratings.
Edited on Sat Oct-17-09 11:42 AM by Forkboy
And the Yankees deliver them. If the other teams brought in the ratings you'd see the networks bending over backwards for them too.

If they really want to stop worrying about bad weather games they should play 150 games instead of 162, but as that would be 6 home games worth of revenues gone I can't imagine any owner going for it. Outside of football, all the sports seasons are way too long.

20. There is really a lot of revenue coming from games that have 5,000 attendees
in the stands? Half of those are boy/girl scouts attending for free. Yes, the Orioles do that at the end of the season to put people in the stands.

Sorry to bring in the "attendance" thingie!

27. Dodger Stadium avreages about 35,000 per game.
You can bet which way the Parking Lot Attendant would vote of they tried to shorten the season.

29. The next 5 (if needed) NLCS games all begin at 8PM Eastern time....
The ALCS games that conflict with those times (two of them, if the series goes to 7 games) are at 4PM eastern, including Monday's game.

Of course ratings count. Unless they can get PBS to show the games, the television networks are doing this for money.

5. I agree. It's insane to play a whole season in 90+ temps then playoffs in October
in the 40s in rain or colder.

They need more double headers during the season to shorten the calendar.

7. They used to play quite a few double headers and the season was over in early
October. Granted they have added two and a half weeks of additional playoff games, but they could still end the regular season at the end of the third week in September.

It's pretty much guaranteed that one of the four teams will be a northern team, and they chance of winter weather is quite likely.

Plus, another advantage to your idea is that they'd have all year to make up any missed games.

17. It's not ideal, but why not? Many teams open with six. Why not 10 or 12?
If the goal is to eliminate cold-weather post season games some thing has got to give somewhere. Owners are not going to cut the schedule.

and subsequent Game 5.1.

Factoid: The Rays had already checked out of their hotel, and there were no hotel rooms to be had in Philly. So they went down I-95 to... (drum roll, please)...

Wilmington, Delaware. :-)

those tolls. Probably used up all the playoff winnings just paying those tolls!

23. Renck: Baseball in November is ridiculous
LOS ANGELES — There is clarity in brevity. Baseball has to come to its senses and abbreviate the season. Not by games, but days.

The seventh game of the World Series is scheduled for Nov. 5. That is patently ridiculous. Weather becomes a factor. Why wouldn't it? What's next, the Fall Classic airing after the Lions on Thanksgiving?

No owner worth his black American Express card will give up a home date. Too much money at stake. I get it. So let's have a minimum of four day-night doubleheaders during the season. And, as much as this hurts, take away at least three off days.

The season also needs to start April 1 and end roughly Sept. 20. That would help the playoffs wrap up by mid-October. And while we're at it, why not cut the League Championship Series to five games? That would increase the urgency of every pitch, add more drama.

Listen, there's no easy solution here. Baseball is a slave to TV — so they won't play on Mondays opposite the NFL....

26. Why does baseball need a regular season of over 160 games
anyway. How many times do you see games in near empty stadiums? Standarise the rules, have each team play every other teams 4 times - twice at home and twice away - for a 120 odd game season (still too long); or even once on a home and away basis for a 60 odd game season. No one seems to pay much attention until after the All Star break anyway.

Peace
