American Family Association: Same-Sex Marriage Will Lead to Building, Dog and Car Marriage
Buster Wilson, General Manager of AFA (the anti-gay organization that hosts Bryan Fischer) had this to say:

<snip>
Wilson: So that’s why we are among many others who are fighting so vigorously for the traditional marriage, and it is because it is not just that we are—we’re not homophobic and we just hate homosexuals—but that whole mindset is being pushed upon America and the end result of America giving into it is that the door is flung open. And it’s more than just homosexual marriage or homosexual relationships that will come out of it, polygamy comes out of it, what’s the term?

Vitagliano: Polyamory.

Wilson: Polyamory, that’s gonna come out of it. We have talked about people who brought to the forefront their desire to marry—one guy had a desire to marry a building, another one a car, another one his dog. It’s just unbelievable, if you throw off the restraints and you say there’s no Christianity that’s going to guide how we look at this issue as a nation, then anything goes.

There you have it. Either you have Christianity or you have equal rights for gay people, which leads to people marrying their animals and their property. But they don't hate gay people. :eyes:

1. Can I marry all three of my cats?
If I can marry three cats at once, can I marry my blue Saturn Vue at the same time? I have become quite fond of the car, as well as the cats.

4. If we married our cars would we get to be included on their insurance plans?
And could the cats be included too? Veterinary care is terribly expensive.

2. Forget the buildings, dogs and cars, I want to marry an Association:....

the American Family Association!

I think the association and I will have incredible sex every night for 50 years hence.

Believe me, none of their members ever had sex as good as I will give them all.

3. I had to seriously restrain myself when a coworker equated same sex marriage with marrying animals.
This was 4 years ago and I was still in my probationary period at the machine shop.

I doubt I would be able to hold my temper now.

7. They pretty much consider us animals
It's no wonder they equate our marriages with human/animal marriage.

9. And this guy was well educated, he worked as a school teacher before he was hired on at the shop.

Of course this is the south and I was still in culture shock, in Vermont some people probably THINK that way but they would never dare say so in mixed company.

I'm just glad he's not teaching in public schools anymore.

on edit: You have no idea how many people assume I moved away from Vermont because of civil unions/same sex marriage.

11. They hear that sort of crap in their churches
on the radio, from Pat Robertson on his 700 Club show, and they read it on their RRRW Websites. They swallow it and regurgitate it, then it spreads. Anti-gay laws get passed and laws promoting equality get overturned. But we're constantly told that people like Bryan Fischer, Pat Robertson and the rest have no influence and don't reflect "Real Christians".

8. We started down that slippery slope when people started getting married.
We should have just outlawed all of it from the beginning. Men and women getting married? Next it will be men and men. Before you know it kitchen sinks will be marrying fire engines!

Should have just let everyone live in sin from the start and avoided all of these consequences.

In case it's needed: :sarcasm:

These people are absolutely nuts.

Gay people should just incorporate themselves. Then they can be considered people and have rights.

19. I know a few men whom I'd say are already married to their cars.
Probably even commoner in America.

Anyway this obsession with homosexuality as THE sin (actually, often it's homosexuality and abortion as the two sins) is depressing. There is little about it in the Bible, or so far as I know, any other religious text. And it seems often to be an excuse to be vicious toward a minority. The religious right, despite their repeating that 'we are all sinners', tend to put far more emphasis on those 'sins' that only a minority would be tempted to commit than on those that are a temptation for many, such as covetousness, or even adultery (at least if you're male and not a Democratic President).

The obsession with the details of other people's sex lives is rather creepy and Peeping-Tom-ish.

20. Idiot.
In both law and the major American faiths, the essence of marriage lies in the consent of the two parties to enter into the relationship. That's why we recognize common-law marriage, after all. It's also why we have divorce--the initial consent no longer exists--and why we don't allow five-year-olds to marry.

I'd appreciate it if this person Fischer would explain how a car, a building or even a cat or dog can consent to marriage.

Consent.

Far be it from me, however, to expect rationality or logic from the RRRW.

21. Do you, building, take this man to be your lawful, wedded husband?
*chirp**chirp**chirp*

What I find hard to comprehend is that these fundies apparently think there is more difference between men and women than there is between humans and cats.

22. afa provides a professional trolling service: they convert rightwing dollars into strategic
angry-noisy soundbites for lazy/co-opted media outlets to echo, with the aim of producing anxious kneejerks from low-info citizens

they're deliberately incoherent: they don't want their low-info targets to think clearly. they only care about properly-timed buzz around the anxious kneejerks produced by their angry-noisy jibberjabber. attending to exactly what they say will just fuggup your head
