What’s the best way to combat atheism on a college campus?
Militant atheism is one of the worst forms of proselytism. It is definitely a belief system which seeks to impose its will on those who might have differing opinions. To combat militant atheism on campus, do these four things:

1. Pray. Why? Because it works. Pray for the conversion of those who seek to impose a militant atheism on college campuses. Pray for the faculty and administration to be open to the initiatives of faith based organizations on campus. Pray, pray, pray.
(CH: no, prayer does not work, but whatever..)

2. Refuse to be irrelevant. A university environment is supposed to be one that welcomes the free exchange of ideas. In fact, your rights to this are guaranteed in the Constitution of the United States, as is your right to freely associate with other like-minded individuals.
(CH: yeah, free exchange of ideas for everyone but atheists, right?)

3. Know your faith. As St. Peter says, “Always be ready to give an explanation to anyone who asks you for a reason for your hope…” (1 Peter 3:15) A good starting point is Robert Schihl’s wonderful site: http://www.catholicapologetics.org/
(CH: Considering many atheists know the bible better than many believers, thats a great recommendation...)

4. Intentionally engage the administration of the university in a constructive and polite manner. Get to know the folks in charge. When you are a real person, they have to deal with you as a real person. Often you can achieve much by showing that you are willing to work with them to achieve mutual benefit for all involved.
(CH: for all, except for atheists..)

1. That's crazy.
How can one possibly try to supress knowledge of atheism (or any other concept) and then use the constitution to declare YOUR speech more relevant?

19. These are Christians we're talking about
Many of them (including several here on DU) like to parrot the line that we have "Freedom OF RELIGION, not freedom FROM RELIGION". They see nothing wrong with suppressing minority religions and atheists while pushing their own faith into everything everywhere.

3. I don't know. Maybe by letting them read some of
hippie's posts. That would do the trick.

5. Allow me to translate.
1. Suspend independent critical thought.

2. Solidify your subordinate position in the hierarchy of your cult and proclaim it publicly.

3. Self indoctrinate. Under no circumstances should you allow the "free exchange of ideas" to work both ways.

4. Insinuate yourself, and the ideology we have designed for you, into the power structure.

6. Simple: don't combat it. Have your own beliefs and don't feel the need to "combat" those of others
And yes, some militant atheists can be as irritating as militant fundies. But there is no need for "combat" in return. Busted halo indeed.

10. Um, excuse me, but states under atheist dictators are responsible
for more deaths than all religious wars in history. When you make such a statement, you need to know whereof you speak.

the "atheist" dictators did not do it because of their belief system.

12. Let's not forget the hundreds of thousands who will die from AIDS thanks to The Church's policies.
The Vatican instructs its minions to lie about the effectiveness of condoms to people in 3rd world countries.

Not saving people when they have the ability to do so is no different than killing them the old fashioned way.

If, as many claim, atheism is just a different kind of religion, then the same rules ought to apply.

15. Or just deal with it.
That's what I did, and still do. Life is full of people who somehow believe they have to get in your face and shove their agenda down your throat. It's annoying no matter what view point they are promoting.

I see lots of kids from church going off to school and dealing with the real world for the first time. The ones who were sheltered tend to be in for quite a shock. I always get a real kick out of the ones who think they're going to force the university's administration to adopt a Christian world view. They don't really get what the whole college experience is about. If your faith is so brittle that some mean old atheist is going to come along and hurt your feelings, well, you're pretty much doomed.

16. Here's how to do it:
Get in everyone’s faces and demand to know if they’ve been SAVED.

Regardless of what they reply, stay in their faces and shove Christian pamphlets into their hands, and then bless them and tell them that God loves them.

Do the prayer circle thing at every opportunity wherever you’ll be the most visible to passersby - and pray as loudly and as passionately as possible.

Trust me – doing these things will turn a lot of nonbelievers and undecideds away from atheism.

18. "Pray. Why? Because it works."
Yes, please pray. Pray every possible minute of the day. For if you're bent over talking to your hands you can't be doing anything to harm others.

Know your faith. As St. Peter says...

Atheists can quote the Bible too:

1 Thessalonians 4:11
11 and to make it your ambition to lead a quiet life: You should mind your own business and work with your hands, just as we told you,

20. The best way to combat atheism on a college campas is to
bribe the evil atheist with sex, drugs, and cash. Drug-induced orgies and cash bribes are sure to make even the most militant atheist see the light. If it doesn't work the first time, then try and try again.
