Missionaries to Position Selves In “Godless” Darwin
Edited on Mon Feb-01-10 11:30 AM by Ian David
A family of North Carolinian evangelists is planning to set up a mission in Australia’s northern city of Darwin.

The Gibbs family is heading to the “unreached city” on account of the high rates of drinking and sexually transmitted diseases.
From the Gibb’s family site:

As we continue to read the news in Darwin, it only reinforces our burden for this unreached city and the urgency of us planting a church there. Northern Territory is now the country’s leader in STDs and alcohol consumption. Though the government tries to combat these problems with social programs, we as Christians know that it is only Christ who can truly heal this territory.

The Gibb’s family plans for the godless Darwinians will be put into place once they have raised all of the necessary funds and have their visas approved. According to NT News, they intend to: “begin planting a church in Darwin through evangelistic crusades, letter boxing and other mediums” and “train both Australians and Asians for full-time Christian service”.

Just more of the hypocritical "I know whats best for you" bullshit. Fuck off, fundies.

All you "liberal and tolerant" christians should be really pissed off about this. Maybe you should do something.....

4. On the other hand, Australia has a lot of poisonous spiders and snakes.
And these signs shall follow them that believe: In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues. They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. (Mark 16:17-18)

7. Sounds like they just want to move to someplace nice.
Darwin is a great town, fairly large, and is a very pleasant place to live. There are already plenty of churches, mosques and synagogues there, as well as an excellent school system, park system, museums and several universities. These "missionaries" will be completely unnoticed--people in Darwin have better things to do than to pay much attention to them.

The drinking and sex numbers probably have something to do with the fact that there is a LOT of mining, oil drilling and military in the area, as well as a good sized seaport. Not exactly the kind of place that is crying out for "missionaries".

8. Well that should be interesting.
I wonder how long it'll take someone to explain to them that "Wanker!" isn't Australian for "Welcome!".

9. They should e denied visas
as far as I'm concerned. They fucked up royally in Uganda, and now they want to fuck up Australia? I think that all fundies and evangelicals should be declared legally insane, and locked up for the rest of their lives. Come on! Let's save the world, and declare fundamentalim an extinct species!! ;-) (Notice I did specify the radical right)

On a more serious note, these bastards are just too precious for words. (But I attack that topic in my own post downthread.)
