Okay call me a jerk or whatever BUT I am SICK AND TIRED OF this GOD
talk in one shape or another.

Georgia is giving the woman who basically stopped the shooting rampage a check for $10,000 dollars...YES she deserves it BUT come on the way the media is hyping this it is she could have only done it with her faith in God and not having a cool reasonable head.

I'm sorry if I sound like a God hating jerk but I am just so tired of hearing about how God this and God that...And she did it with her faith..or he wouldn't have survived without his faith...

Does anyone remember when if a hero did something...yes, his/her faith was a part of the story but the story also detailed other things..like logic and a cool head...

thanks for letting me rant.

1. I share your disgust; however you are still a jerk or whatever
because you blame God for the tasteless use of His name. You are in reality angry at this "Christian" woman for abusing the name of God, which, by the way, God does not like. "Thou shalt not use the name of God in vain". There is a file line where you should make your faith known, and be grateful to God for all good gifts, but the name of God should not be used flippantly.

You are not angry at God. Good for you.

6. I did not say anything about blaming GOD him OR HER self I personally
am a Wiccan if you insist on knowing. I look at that file as being optional. I am a human being first and formost!

14. Please forgive me - I read your subject line, I didn't know
it continued! The subject line was

"Okay call me a jerk or whatever BUT I am SICK AND TIRED OF this GOD"

I am really sorry. It's my fault. I am with you all the way.

and should have arranged it differently.

9. "God" isn't God's name.
It's just the name we use to describe "God."

2. Welcome to chaos-induced hyperreligiosity - common sociological event
In times of chaos and uncertainty affecting large numbers of the populace, there is ALWAYS a upsurge of hyperreligosity in the weak minded to help them cope with life's uncertainties. It's reassuring to some to believe that there is a mythical being lording over them, protecting them from harm, and giving purpose to their life. Of course, this is all a grand delusion and these folks fail to realize that they should make the best of the time they are given and live their lives to the fullest...because this is it.

3. They are giving her $60K, I believe.
And I am a Christian and get tired of all the "God talk" simply because the way I was raised, you don't wear your beliefs on your sleeve and go around showing off and beating your chest about it.

But don't blame God. Really. He isn't doing it.

20. Yeah, Landover Baptist is great!
They weild all that superreligious crap against the fundies, including choice Old Testament quotes. Make sure the fundies follow ALL the bible quotes, instead of just those they like to select, don't you know.

5. Will Rogers said "If dogs don't go to heaven, then I want to
go where they go". I sure as hell don't want to keep company with
either Bush's God or the God of the religious right wing in the U.S.
I don't know too much about religion, but, my guess is that if Jesus were to run for President, the River Boat guys would destroy his reputation with some scathing videos.

8. It's understandable
It's understandable. I'm Christian and am even getting tired of it. God isn't involved in FREEWILL. Duh. That's what happened with this woman. She used her freewill to do this. And now the whole Schavio thing. Oy. I'm even getting tired of all this being forced all over the place.

24. MSNBC
Anyone notice the series "Faith in America" on MSNBC and NBC? Companies getting evangelical chaplains or crap? It's like a commercial for Christianity. Why do it need to be covered? They should cover non-Christian religions but that'd be evil.

No one has ever accused me of hating Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny.

28. Didja know Edison tried to build a machine to communicate with
the dead?

I know it's OT, but it's a fascinating coda to the life of a scientist. He became convinced that souls were real and tried to build a machine to communicate with them. It remained unfinished.

26. You of course do not know this. You merely think you do.
You have no more knowledge of what happens after we die than anyone else. If believing you do gives you comfort, awesome. Just don't expect people to take you seriously when you proclaim to have some form of special knowledge.

THAT'S why many people don't like some Christians - the arrogance those Christians have displayed.

29. i got a question for you...
didn't our ancestors come over here to escape religious persecution? They did, so what gives you the right to do just that to Nike? She has her belief, and you can have yours. But to tell her to face god alone and debate that? You have no right to do that. There is a mature way of handling things and an immature way of handling things. The mature way is to e-mail her and tell her privately what you think. The immature way is to publicly blast her and judge her like you did on the boards. You are not god and do not claim that you know all. It is her decision to believe in god or not. Do not ever harass her again.

31. See, this is an exaple of the "angry" god
Really, there are many gods in the guise of the one Christian god.

Which god do you need to do the trick today? The angry god so you can scare your non-believer friends when they start getting all critically-thinky. Do you need the loving god when you want to comfort a kindred spirit? How about the mystical god when you need to explain bad things that happen to you? Or perhaps the giving god when good things happen to you.

That's the great thing about religion...your god can be anything you want her to be!

It gets really insulting to see all these charlatans acting like they have a personal line to God. They're nothing but latter-day Pharisees who'd piss on Christ as soon as look at Him.

I agree, the religious nonsense is getting out of hand. But, you may find comfort in the knowledge that periods of conservative uprise are always followed by periods of enlightened renaissance. People will grow tired of the moralizing, condemnation, and censorship. :evilfrown:

A powerful belief like that allows some people to do many good (and
sometimes bad) things they would be unable to do without it.
