Griffin's Emmy Remarks To Be Censored
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070911/ap_en_tv/tv_emmys_griffin;_ylt=AtkypF3j3vo2jS83e_CIcqJpMhkF

Before Kathy Griffin won a creative arts Emmy last weekend for her reality show, "My Life on the D-List," she joked that an award would move her to the C-list.

She was right: "C" as in censored. The TV academy said her raucous acceptance speech will be edited when the event, which was taped, is shown Saturday on the E! channel. The main prime-time Emmy Awards air the next night on Fox.

"Kathy Griffin's offensive remarks will not be part of the E! telecast on Saturday night," the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences said in a statement Monday.

In her speech, Griffin said that "a lot of people come up here and thank Jesus for this award. I want you to know that no one had less to do with this award than Jesus."

She went on to hold up her Emmy, make an off-color remark about Christ and proclaim, "This award is my god now!"

1. Poor little baby
Donahue can't handle his all powerful god being dissed by a D-list celebrity. What fragile egos.

6. What part of the constitution guarantees Christians the right
to go through life without being offended by people who don't agree with them?

That's what I want to know.

15. There's no reason that should rub you the wrong way.
If it does, then you are prejudging. I think you are the one with the problem.

7. I don't get the fuss. I think it's pretty funny.
And I know he's a huge media whore oxygen-sucking blowhard, but how in the world does someone like Bill Donahue take that as "hate speech"?

It's a JOKE for pete's sake!

9. Slow week, I guess
If he doesn't find fresh outrage regularly, he doesn't eat.
Asked about her speech backstage a short time later, an unrepentant Griffin added, "I hope I offended some people. I didn't want to win the Emmy for nothing."

...

Griffin's reaction to the imbroglio, according to a statement issued by her publicist: "Am I the only Catholic left with a sense of humor?"

8. They left out the part of the speech that's probably the bone of contention
The article doesn't give her entire speech. My guess is that the part that's been printed will make it to broadcast. It's the part about "suck it, Jesus" that won't.

And I also guess that rightwing Catholic famewhore Bill O'Donohue had nothing to do with their decision. More than likely except for porno channels and Howard Stern, most networks would do the same thing.

13. Well seeing as she describes herself as a militant atheist
I think that one is taken for granted. Assuming of course the Universalists aren't the one's that got it right.

12. Wow, I'm surprised Bill Donohue is so easily offended...

I mean, personally I think that the Catholic Church's doctrine on contraceptive use and all it's doing to help the spread of AIDs in Africa is pretty offensive, or at least more offensive than a joke. I guess people dying of disease to uphold the orthodoxy is fine and dandy. Asshole.

14. What she said was stupid. Bigoted? I don't know. Here at DU
there is some bigotry against religious groups that surpasses criticism and is clearly hate inspired. That should never be tolerated. Bill Mahre crossed the line and I consider him a bigot( even though I agree with most of his politics). To me he is the Ann coulter of the left. I consider these kinds of people no different than someone who uses the N word. They are dangerous because they create an atmosphere of hate.

16. What did he say to rate that much indignity?
I mean Coulter has suggested that we kill people just to remind liberals that they can be killed too. I mean what did Mahrer say that was on par with that?
