MILLION VOTER MARCH
I would start a website myself for this but I don't have the technology to stop the inevitable hacking spree that will be done to it.

My idea is to take donations to organize a massive march outside the Rockefeller Center that would then move to DC outside the White House.

Donations would go to renting buses to move people from all over the country.

Actually pretty simple and I suspect would be very effective to getting our message out there.

I could design a cheapo one for this, but wouldn't know how to protect it from hacking.

12. I would recomend
to find a community hacker website and see what they recommend. It takes a hacker to fight a hacker. I will look some whitehat hacker sites for good defense.

3. I'm on board.
But I would recommend a date between Thanksgiving and Christmas. I know, I know, fighting for democracy is more important then celebrating a holiday but if we want a million people, we need to give them a date that will draw them out.

Just a thought.

If they do I suspect it will be, "thousands of people" instead of the one million you're shooting for (no matter how many you get).

8. I would be there!
and bring fellow Ohioans with me (unless we're busy counting!)

I could maybe arrange some wire photo coverage, but beyond that, not sure. m Speaking of which, I have been looking every day on Getty and AP and Reuters for stories about this that are under the radar (i have access to the raw feed sites and see a lot of the photos I wish America could see and should see - the war, protests around the globe, etc). Nothing yet, but will keep you posted.

10. Great idea
This sounds like a great idea. I think it's just what we need to make the media sit up and pay attention. I'm glad someone finally suggested it.

Maybe the thing to do here is to try in coordinate this w/ groups that already have existing websites and have built deep rosters of members. Moveon has been awful quiet lately. I sure hope they haven't moved on!

This is my first post here, btw. I've been lurking around since september. I love you peeps. You give me strength.

The point is that we need to get every instance that we can to try to get our message to the rest of Americans so that they know that they are not alone, that there IS a counter-culture alive. Three years?? That's a hellava long time to wait to take action. TODAY! TODAY!

16. Thanks
Thanks for the welcome, unpossibles. I'm a creative editor, which just means I'm part editor, part animator, and part designer. It's fun.

Candy, I think the point of staging a protest is visibility. The average joe out there probably has no clue about the questions surrounding the election. The media has demonstrated that they will do whatever they can to kill the story. So we have to find a way to thrust this issue into the public eye.

There are questions of timing, IMHO. Timing is everything with something like this. We have to be careful. An ill-timed protest could blow our momentum.

who can't afford or find time to go to D.C. can help organize local events on the same day and time. The mass media only covers protests if they are widespread. We need at least a medium-sized protest in several major cities. Anyone have any suggestions to move this a bit further?

19. I agree, this is a MUST
Hello all, long-time lurker, first-time poster here.

I completely agree with the idea of marching. At the very least, it's important to let the country know that this "mandate" Bush claims to have is fiction.

I propose the march take place in DC on either Saturday, Jan. 14 or Sunday, Jan. 15. I think these dates are appropriate because 1). They fall within a week of the inauguration and 2). They fall on/near the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Furthermore, I propose that simultaneous marches should be held not only in every state in this nation, but that we should encourage people in other nations to participate as well. This should be a GLOBAL protest against the Bush administration.

Thank you...

22. Sure but why wait until January? Ohio is the deal NOW
It's Ohio, stupid. Without a laser beam focused on them NOW, when lawyers and activists are disputing the election in Ohio right now is when it makes the most impact. Just my humble opinion. The longer you wait the more it looks like "What the hell are you talking about, sore losers, the election is OVER."

Protesting at the White House is about protesting Bush. Protesting in state is about protesting how those elections were run and how they were counted. Ohio-with voters supression and Blackwell. Ohio with Diebold's CEO promise.

It's still November.

29. Why march just once when there are so many opportunites...
Yes, I agree. March in Ohio too. The inauguration protest march is a last resort kind of thing. If this joke of an election stands without scrutiny, I think that the inauguration should be protested...in every state and country, if possible. Let every governments around the world know that Bush has no mandate and that cooperating with this administration comes at a political price.

25. the anniversary of the Boston Tea Party
Edited on Mon Nov-22-04 03:35 PM by stellanoir
is December 16th - 17th. That is 3-4 days after the election is nationally certified by the electoral college.

As if you all don't remember, the Boston Tea Party was in protest of

TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION !

That's the essence of what happens with widespread voter fraud.

40. Should it have something "catchy" like they did for the Boston Tea Party
Just some thoughts:

Someone mentioned before on another thread about a "funeral for democracy" which I thought was a great idea.

Everyone could wear black clothes, etc., all with a mourners theme and could drink iced tea.

It needs a good name, too, IMO and it should be submitted and emailed to all of the Media so they can plan for it, too. :)

At least something in Ohio to pressure the recount. In fact, we should bus as many people to Ohio as we can to oversee the recount AND protest.

I will be in trying to contact others on putting together a website to organize and fund this operation. More to come.

36. The lockdown in the capital will be far too intense
on the day of the inaugural to have any impact whatsoever. However, littering with tea (organic matter) in front of the Secretaries of States offices (they control election procedures) of each and every state perhaps may have some impact. And no one would have to travel quite so far.

It could be totally grassroots.

I will order up some purple ribbons enscribed with "One Nation,
Under Fraud." They will be available through http://watchingthewatchers.org.

They may just encourage further activism.

Who the heck knows?
