Rep. Nancy Pelosi: ‘To My Republican Friends, Take Back Your Party’
Edited on Wed Apr-13-11 11:15 AM by jakeXT
Democratic House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi gave a speech at Tufts University in Massachusetts where she shared some “friendly” advice with the opposing side in Washington. Clearly frustrated with the lengthy and acrimonious budget fight, Pelosi said “elections shouldn’t matter as much as they do” and warned that it would be problematic for the country if both parties do not have shared values.

Pelosi challenged Republicans:
“To my Republican friends: take back your party. So that it doesn’t matter so much who wins the election, because we have shared values about the education of our children, the growth of our economy, how we defend our country, our security and civil liberties, how we respect our seniors.”

3. I like it
Today's republicans are extremist. And nearly half the country is caught up in their Tsunami.

Pelosi is taking the fight right to them and calling them on their BS.
She presided over one of the most active and successful Congress we've ever seen.
And not only did the pubbies trash her, but she got trashed by many of her own party.

Dems problem is that they are not members of an organized party, they are democrats.

Go Pelosi. Give 'em hell!

5. To say Republicans and Democrats have shared values would seem laughable
on its face: Ryan's proposed budget reflects Republican values, to wit, gut social security and Medicare to fund further tax breaks for large corporations and the uber-wealthy. What's so hard to understand about this simple, but depraved, fact? :patriot:

6. read it again
The thing is, if you ask self-identified Republicans around the country whether it's a good idea to gut Social Security and Medicare to fund tax breaks for corporations and the super-rich, a heck of a lot of them will say no.

Basically, this is Pelosi's way of saying that she isn't slamming Republicans per se, but that at the moment, their political leadership is advocating things that most Americans -- regardless of party affiliation -- would despise if they understood.

We can debate the details, but I think that's pretty reasonable.
