Right-Wing Voter Suppression Effort Caught Using Doctored Photo (VIDEO, PHOTOS)

Right-Wing Voter Suppression Effort Caught Using Doctored Photo (VIDEO, PHOTOS)

A right-wing group in Houston engaged in a systematic voter suppression and intimidation effort used a doctored photo in its showcase video. Tellingly, a hand-lettered sign carried by an African-American woman at a 2000 Florida, Gore-Lieberman recount rally was changed from, "Don't Mess With Our Vote," to read, "I Only Got to Vote Once."

Huffington Post editors first suspected the photoshopping after I posted "Possible Arson and the Right's Texas Voter Suppression Effort" regarding King Street Patriots' attacks on a nonprofit voter registration effort and the mysterious fire that destroyed all of Harris County's (Houston) voting machines.

In my regular Sunday FireDogLake column, I posted a follow-up piece, "Contempt for Democracy: Attacks on Voting Rights," that included a link to DigitalDupes.org, which had launched an effort to locate the original photo. Within hours, Newshounds found it.

In addition, a Gore/Lieberman sign was altered to read, "I'm With Stupid." Here is the doctored video as presented in King Street Patriots' video, followed by the original photographs.

The King Street Patriots video has disappeared from their website (soon after the deception was revealed), but it remains on YouTube. UPDATE: Video still at King Street Patriots site affiliate, TrueTheVote.org. Here it is:

It's business as usual for the GOP deception machine.

but, can anyone tell me if the Democrats have ever, EVER done anything as bad as the Repukelican Party and as often?

3. Actually, Democrats have been as bad and as often.
That is, they consistently let Republicans get away with it...and then call them "patriots".

5. I hear ya! I was on the east side of Columbus witnessing the theft
and after I got someone at the BOE to provide documentation of machine allocation offered it up to the MSM who wanted NOTHING to do with it. A real eye opener. It's also an eye opener that once our party got in power they've done so little at the Fed level to correct it. In Ohio, the heroine in trying to correct a defunct system, former Judge and Democratic SOS Jennifer Brunner get's nixed by the party establishment to the point they used rovian tactics in a smear campaign on the eve of the primary.

I really thought John Conyers was going to do something once the Dems got in power. Everything got swept under the rug and the complicit media is worthless.

8. Amy Goodman was doing an interview with Brian Lamb
on Caspian. She asked the question, "What would be the difference if we had state media?"

Of course, he didn't answer. Wish I had a dollar for every time "journalists are lazy. They don't want to report the news" has been repeated.

What if a NY Times reporter wanted to tell the truth about election fraud..or the questions that still remain about 9/11..do you think the story would ever get printed?

Even progressive websites would not allow comments about either one. Many of them still don't.
