Where is Jesse Jackson? Why is he so quiet?
It's official- thousands (millions?) of voters were once again disenfranchised and once again, many of these were in minority or low income areas. This time it was even more widespread then ever before- and there are thousands of reports of specific incidents directed at people of color to stop them from voting. Yet they did vote- (as did all of us) in record numbers. Where is he? What's the deal? Shouldn't we be writing to him as well or is he working "underground" with the Kerry team? Either way, wouldn't you think he might have a statement of some kind? Very strange.

Furthermore, I just visited his Rainbow Push site and in addition to there being no mention of the election, the lead story on the home page is about the death of Arafat whom he says "altered the world. Against the odds, he built a people from identify crisis to a state, much like George Washington and Mandela". (I had to stop reading at that point because I began to feel sick).

Give me a break, Jesse. What about the crisis here and your promise not make sure that every person got to vote and that every vote would count?

Mysterious Virus Disrupts Telephone Service and Mobilization Efforts at the RainbowPUSH Coalition
<snip>---
CHICAGO— November 1, 2004 – Voter mobilization efforts at the RainbowPUSH Coalition have been temporarily halted due to a mysterious virus, which has disrupted telephone service at the organization’s headquarters in Chicago.

The untimely disruption, occurring on the eve of the November 2nd election, has prevented more than 100 volunteers from making the final thrust in mobilizing voters for Tuesday’s election. The callers, who are a part of the organization’s “Get Out the Vote Effort,” were scheduled to make thousands of calls to newly registered voters today. Officials said they are currently exploring alternative sites for the volunteers to make the calls.

8. Did you see Sharpton live on 'The Daily Show' on Nov. 2nd?
He went after republicans and poor William Weld (the other guest) with a vengeance!

Nope, definitely not quiet. Not even close. Sharpton is irrepressible.

7. Good question. Where have Jackson and Sharpton been since Nov. 2nd?
That question is one of the main reasons I believe there is some major maneuvering going on under the radar. There is absolutely no way that Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson would stand by and let all of these disenfranchised voters - in so many states - be unrepresented on a national level, not without first bringing about large and LOUD protests.

But we're not done. Not yet. ;)

Welcome to DU, KaryninMiami! :hi:

9. I promise to buy the drinks when they all come "over the radar"!
We'll be dancin' in the streets for sure- we're talking a global celebration (and I sure hope it happens soon!).

I agree - it is indeed, very suspect about both of them being so quiet. Think they are simply gathering momentum? IF so, I can't wait for the fireworks because what went on in this election was beyond deplorable. Disenfranchisement isn't nearly a big enough adjective for the way people were treated and the tricks that were attempted both before and during the election process. Un-F-ing believable (I'm new here and not sure about the language rules).

Speaking of which, thanks for the welcome! I've been hanging around with you guys for quite a while (almost moved in to be honest!)but was not able to register until just a few days ago. This is by far, the most enlightening, productive and thought provoking political blog on the web. You guys are amazing!! :)

Edited on Fri Nov-12-04 10:11 PM by rockedthevoteinMA
which someone in ohio had been filming the process of voting in Ohio in minority precincts, (for Michael Moore) and they filmed Jesse Jackson. That's the last time I saw him. I can't find the website - I think I found it here or on Michaelmoore.

Here it is:
