I Believe.
I believe a few things are true at this moment in history.

First, that the theft of the election of 2004 continues to grow more evident and obvious, and that the grand forces of history are joined with the energy of a great many passionate Americans who won’t rest under the rotten mantle that has settled upon us.

Second, that the anti-democratic forces that have managed to gain a grip on the three branches of our federal government, intimidate the press out of being the watchdogs they have historically been, and who brought us to war on the basis of lies and their ability to game all the national and international systems, have made a fatal error.

They have underestimated the decency of Americans.

You can’t really blame them; they themselves don’t possess that decency.

The decency to say that any system that allows innocent people to be tortured to death, because of our suffering and fear, is not what we stand for.

The decency to see the wisdom of the way the U.S. Constitution apportions the power to send American men and women onto the battlefield of war.

The decency to actually believe that it should be the decision of the people, through their votes, to choose their government.

And as surely as I know that they would effectively destroy the two-party system, I know and believe that they are failing. Because they don’t understand the decency of America and what it really stands for, and really thrives on.

Americans don’t roll over. Not for terrorists. And not for those who think that they can wrest the miracle of representative democracy from the people of this nation. Go ahead: read Machiavelli. Study all the greatest bosses, kaisers, caesers, emperors, and consolidators of power. Do your best. One problem: power resides in the people. If you try to gather it all unto yourself, it’s going to spill back out.

The months since the election have been abundant with fruit for everyone who, seeing the election stolen, breathed deep, got mad, and knew that justice would eventually prevail.

I Believe.

I mean, I know it's hard work and all, but shouldn't a guy who's the prezdent at least sound like he did his homework when the teacher calls on him?

5. I believe.
I believe that no matter how dark the darkness seems, there is always light which encourages and beckons us, giving us hope.

I believe that deep in our hearts, we all really know how horribly corrupt our leaders have become; and those with a conscience will take a stand for what is right, honest, and true.

I believe that DU has some of the finest people I know, whom I am honored to call friend. These friends offer hope, encouragement, and love, and my life is greatly enriched by knowing them.

Actually, pre-election polls had Kerry winning OH and FL.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=203x330449

What factual basis to you have to claim, "This election was not stolen?" I BELIEVE it was, and every fact I learn strengthens that belief.

15. I live in Florida.
In a county with early voting.

In a county with optical scan ballots.

In a county that is weighted towards Republicans.

Kerry smacked down Bush hard in the early voting.

The pre-election polls in Florida as of the weekend before election day had Kerry by a fraction of a percentage point over Bush. i.e. too close to call.

Can you imagine the Red Sox winning, but no one was allowed in the stadium, the game wasn't televised and George Steinbrenner controlled the scoreboard?

236. I too live in Florida - it was rigged. Period. But we have a chance here-
Getting whistle-blower Clint Curtis on the ballot in District 24 is it- our chance to propel election rigging into the mainstream media- something many of us have been trying to do for years. Clint will be running against Tom Feeney- one of the most corrupt politicians in America and the elected official who hired him to design a program that could flip the votes without detection. How could the media resist this story? But we need to get him on the ballot first and then continue to support his campaign.

That's why we need your help- and everyone's support!

Help Get Clint Curtis on the Ballot!!! Please donate today!

9. I believe
I believe that if there is anything worth fighting for in this time in which we live, it is GETTING OUR DEMOCRACY BACK. There are a hundred ways to do it, or more, and Election Reform is one of the most important.

I am so grateful for the people who are working their asses off on it. I am doing a little bit, here and there, but the heroes are the ones who are really devoted to it full time.

So THANK YOU to those heroes (you know who you are) and to everyone who is doing a little bit here and there, like me, because TOGETHER WE WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

24. I Believe
Most of us fight because we know that there is a terrible rift in this country that threatens to destroy all that is right and just and good. We come from every walk of life, and we are united in our concern for this country. We hold the deepest respect for our fellow citizens and everyone else that happens to share this planet with us.

The circumstances that brought us all together are unfortunate indeed. The forces that have come to control our corporations, our government and our media seem to know no limits. Fortunately, the arrogance that brought these thieves to power will be their own undoing.

America will survive this because concerned citizens will not stand idly by and allow tyranny to continue, unchecked. This is a fight we did not ask for and would have preferred not to fight. We are veterans and soldiers and students and hard working citizens. We love our families and we love this country.

We believe that the Constitution was put in place for a reason. We believe that every citizen's right to vote is sacred and must be protected. We believe that no person is above the law, no matter how charismatic (or not) they may appear. We believe that treason is treason, no matter what political party is in power. We believe that we have been called to protect the freedoms that we have come to enjoy. We will not fail in this noble calling.

We will Never Give Up.

I Believe

PS Thanks Bleever for keeping "I Believe" alive :yourock:

26. We have decided what we will do with the time that is given us:
“Always after a defeat and a respite, the Shadow takes another shape and grows again.”
“I wish it need not have happened in my time,” said Frodo.
“So do I,” said Gandalf, “and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”

32. Quote from "Return of the King"
Replace Men with people/something more gender neutral and I think it's quite apt for the thread.

Said by Aragorn

"My brothers. I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of me. A day may come when the courage of Men fails, when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship, but it is not this day. An hour of wolves and shattered shields when the Age of Men comes crashing down, but it is not this day! This day we fight! By all that you hold dear on this good earth, I bid you stand, Men of the West!"

And yes, I am that much of a geek that I googled and found the whole quote.

44. I believe that it's actually getting easier to believe
that justice for the theft of the 2004 election will surely come.

At first, it was a matter of faith for many of us.

Faith generated action and conversation.

Action and conversation, through persistance, generated more action and conversation. And to an anti-democratic cabal that seeks to control the system, and thwart anything resembling checks and balances (the root of the genius of our founders), action and conversation are poison. They count on us shutting up, moving on, and not making waves.

But I see the people who gather here at DU, and who post on this thread, and I feel invigorated by the force and perseverence of the people who know that the smallest voice down in Whoville might be the one that makes the difference in all of us being heard.

Thank you to all the remarkable people at DU, and to all of the people who've posted here, who inspire me, and make me know that we are correct when we say, We Believe.

61. Freepers are reading us
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-bloggers/1418048/posts?page=102#102

That link takes you to a post by Bev Harris, smack-dab in the middle of a thread about this thread. Scroll to the top of that page or follow the rest of the thread to see what a bunch of America haters they are.

Our thread talks about conserving democracy and restoring the government to being answerable and responsible to a free people. Some freepers, otoh, are aghast at such revolutionary talk. They like the fact that the government is getting away with murder, possible vote stealing, and limiting the right of individuals to speak freely. In short, the freepers have gone totally against what they pretend to stand for: A Free Republic.

Can you say Hypocrisy? That is what we are dealing with, my brothers and sisters, pure hypocrisy from those flag waving, jack-booted thugs who infest freeperville.

62. Well...that was an interesting trip through a land of spitballs,
putdowns, and sniggling back-of-the-classroom crack-up-your-buddies retorts.

Jefferson, Madison, Articles of Confederation, Continental Congress, separation of powers, checks and balances, three co-equal branches of government, the power to declare war...to heck with that stuff. I'm a stupid-head. I read it over there where the folks think that the two-party system is one party too many.

Only they didn't come up with "stupid-head". That's all mine, baby.

I guess we should be grateful for the attention, when they really should be dancing around in joy at how their president has made everything all perfect, now that he has all three branches in hand. I can't believe anything could distract them from the crazy-wild non-stop victory party they should be having.

Here's why I admit to "stupid-head": I don't understand the "sore winner" phenomenon. What the heck is that about, anyway?

Interesting that we see our words spread across the freepers screens. Ya gotta hand it to that Peanut butter and Jelly-comic dude over there. He has mamnaged to put more of our words up for them to read than all the banned DUers combined. I want to thank that pb&J-comical dude for doing so, he's done us a favor.

Getting my dad to read an "I believe" thread that way.
They should be very careful which words they select to put over there. Some of these beautiful posts might jump start some long dormant brains at Free Republic.
If people start thinking for themselves, that's going to be a real problem for their president.

I originally signed on to DU just to post on Doohickie's original thread.

Doohickie, do you ever come around any more? You should be proud. And you too, bleever, for never letting this thread die.

The believing goes on, in one, long, continuous chain, giving us hope when we want to despair, lifting our spirits when yet another promise goes unfulfilled, but--most of all--giving us all the ability to return again and again to hope and pray and believe that ultimately the Good and the Just will prevail.

And look who's started it! :applause: Hey, Bleev!

I believe the tragedies in London today will not distract those of us with determination to see the guilty pursued. ALL of the guilty.

I believe Turdblossom is about to hit the proverbial fan and that the WH is going to need some industrial-strength powerwashing after he does.

I believe that the pResident shouldn't ride his bike without his training wheels and NEVER after a hard rain. The putz.

And, unfortunately, I believe that here in Texas there are far too many dittoheads and falafel boy worshippers, resulting in a whole passel of these:

I believe I am seriously tired of that.

I want my country back. And what's the magic word? NOW.

I believe someone's about to Rove into serious trouble and the dominos will begin to fall. Sociopaths with power do not stick together.

I believe.

Woo hoo, txindy's back!

So nice to see you here, and have the pleasure of your company and finely-crafted words and graphics. It's like finally having milk after eating dry cereal.

Time for us to get our country back. And while there may seem to be a lull in the work of exposing the theft of the election, we need only remember the months of silence on the Plame case, when people were shaking their heads and saying it was going nowhere.

This will serve to expedite the exposure of the stolen election, because once you find root rot, you know that every last Blossom is doomed.

Sorry about the local chimps, tx, but you know you're truly appreciated here.

103. I believe that our time is coming, the intersection of polls down & ...
...explanations/excuses needed to explain how this monster became our ruler. What's the explanation, THE TRUTH. The election was stolen, people will come to that quickly, CM won't be able to stop it and, parallel to that, a few choice and nasty truths once hidden in the past will emerge too! It's coming and we're ready with who, when, why, and how the deed was done in 2000, 2004 and maybe even earlier (never forget "spoilage" as a racist, anti-Democrat tactic).

I believe that the work here will be justified and we will enter the next period of American history justified and responsible as a people because all of our votes will count.

about the implosion around Traitorgate and how big media is following it straight to how we were lied into war, that the focus has shifted for now.

I believe that eventually this will all help to expose the theft of the 2004 election even faster than otherwise, as ordinary people realize how criminal this gang of thugs is.

111. As the web of lies begins its great unraveling, I believe that
not only will we get our country back, but the crimes that led to the theft of this election will be known to historians in far greater detail than the rumors about the 1960 election. Far greater detail.

Mark Crispin Miller's book is another excellent step.

Remember: everyone said that by this time, we'd either have shut up, or we'd be ignored as nuts.

So when we believed back then, we were right. Just like we're right now.

Long term appointments are our biggest threat, I think.

I saw a show on Brazil, and couldn't help but think that we are on our spiral downward, in this country. Shoot first, steal elections through fraud, censure, and a whole array of things really brought me down. This all congeals when I think that Fitzgerald might, and probably won't, be able to continue his work.

But there is hope. I know it's around here somewhere. Just give me a light.

126. It's been approx. nine months and 17 days since they cheated
their way into the White House, for the second time in that pathetic excuse of an "election" and I still believe that the house of * will fall. I am still grateful to see this thread and to know that there are other people who believe as I do; others who have seen through this fraud from day one. Right about now I would love it if Kerry and Edwards were to have * by the balls, you know, like some old western movie or one of those 1930's gangster films where the hero says, "here's how it's gonna be" and they usually have something big and bad on the person they are explaining life to. I so wish that would happen. However it happens, I believe it will happen. It's late. It's not too late. It's never too late.

I still believe.

Like Class Warrior says, "NGU"

135. Goodness grows and prospers; evil inevitably turns in on itself.
A passage from "Blue at the Mizzen" by Patrick O'Brian struck me as apt with reference to our neo-con junta. The ship in which the main characters are sailing has been followed very closely, for many miles, by a large shark. It is suspected that while he is the only one who swims within sight, there may be many others swimming deeper and out of view.

As a demonstration of shark behavior for the naturalist on board, sailors throw buckets of fish blood over the side: "...and in a split second the white foaming wake was scarlet, a most splendid scarlet for thirty yards astern and in the scarlet sharks raced to the surface, sometimes breaking water, lashing and snapping in a blind frenzy of greed and when it was found that the wounded bleeding prey did not exist they turned on the king shark, the big fellow, and a seething mass of long thin fishes not half his size tore and worried and wrenched him to pieces. It was over in barely a minute."

While I do not expect actual cannibalism, I wouldn't rule out anything with these most ruthless of political operators. I just know that loyalty amongst crooks and sociopaths is not the highest of priorities.

I hear the rumble of disgruntled Americans. I believe that Karl Rove will be fired and then go to jail but not necessarily in that order. I believe that Dick Cheney's dirty Halliburton deals will be exposed for what they are. I believe that Donald Rumsfeld and the rest of them will be exposed for the crooked liars that they are. This whole disgusting group will wind up being exposed as the lying crooks that they are. They will go down in history as the worst administration ever. They will be disgraced beyond what I can imagine. They will carry their shame and they will never recovery from it. Every single person who helped them to deceive Americans and others will go down with them. I believe decency will win. I believe that good will conquer evil...even the evil of this administration. I believe that the majority of Americans know that they are lying crooks and that they can see them for what they are. I believe America will be America again. This dark time will pass. This era of evil will end soon, sooner than I think. I believe that Bleever is right when he says we will make it happen. We believers are all apart of this momentum...we have been all along. I believe that Americans can do better. I believe that Gore won in 2000 and Kerry won in 2004. I believe that this will be common knowledge and undeniable fact known by people all over the world. I can see the humiliated * and his humiliated cohorts who won't be able to spin there way out of this falling from high and hard.

I believe that I will see him impeached. It's like in Lord of the Rings, I think it was the second one, when Gandolf and the crew were in the cave running from the monster dragon thing and Gandolf turned to face the dragon at the bridge and with all of his might and sheer force of his will said, "YOU SHALL NOT PASS." That's how I feel. Bush shall not succeed in ruining America with his selfishness, greed and stupidity. I will not allow it. I will believe in something other than disaster for this country. In my mind's eye I will believe that Bush is being impeached. I will dream of it and maybe others will dream of it too. What's your vision? "...Without vision, the people perish..." I am not sure what book or verse to quote, but it's from the good book. The one that the Rethugs don't own. So, I will choose to believe, right now, that this madness stops here! That EVIL Bush shall not pass!

How could my Government fail me in such a colossal and public way. I am no safer now. I knew that but not to the extent that I do now after watching this complete and utter failure of a response to Katrina victims. I am disgusted by the lack of decency, humanity and "Christianity" that the people working in my Federal Government have exhibited. There are some good things. votes were stolen. I believe that millions of people right now regret that we have "president" incompetence running the country. I believe that they cannot put a lid on this problem; they cannot contain it, or manage it, it's too big and too horrible. The "president" let his own people drown and die from lack of water. This is the man who brags and brags about "keeping us safer here at home." Days away from the four year anniversary of 9-11 and they can't respond to a disaster that comes with a warning and lead time. How pathetic is that! I believe they won't be able to spin this. 190. October 23, 2005 I believe that the issue of election fraud is now
coming out. I believe that it will be revealed just like every other foul and wicked scandal that is right this very moment upon this evil regime. I had a dream of it too. There was a group discussion, people who had followed that lying lunatic * and his bunch were sitting and listening in shock and horror at all of the lies, they were seeing it for themselves, they were understanding what happened, they were stunned to know the reality of the issues. Election fraud was coming out. It was going to be revealed. That was going to put the icing on the cake, seal the deal, put the final nail in the coffin...

Oh yes, I believe we shall overcome. I believe that we will begin again. I believe that treason is not a partisan issue. I believe that we can do better and we will. I believe what John Kerry and John Edwards said last year this time, "Hope is on the way. Help is on the way." They knew what they were dealing with and they knew who they were dealing with.

I remember the gigantic crowds that packed in all over the country to see them. I remember who won the debates. I remember who was "presidential." I remember and I will never forget. The Democrats won in 2004 just like they did in 2000. It's not about our "message" or our "campaign" or anything else. It's about FRAUD.

I believe the truth will be told, the whole truth, nothing but the truth so help us God.

191. I think you're all fooling yourselves - you need to make it happen
Edited on Mon Oct-24-05 05:16 AM by sunshinekathy
Everyone in America could know that our elections are being rigged and the vast majority of them could be against it happening

and

our elections will still be rigged again.

You are fooling yourself if you think embarassment or public knowledge will stop it when election systems in a vast majority of states give carte blanche to tamper with elections without leaving a trace of evidence and without any routine independent audits to detect or correct errors introduced by insiders.

Its the same pollyanna view that made Common Cause make our election systems a hundred times worse by formulating and passing the biggest boondoggle for election tamperers ever - the HAVA act.

If you WANT to stop election rigging you have to commit money and time and commit it FAST before its too late to a project that actually has a hope of ensuring that accurately elected candidates are sworn into office after the Nov 2006 election.

http://electionarchive.org

If you folks naively allow another election to be rigged and you aren't awake enough to realize that US house and senate and state house and senate and governor's races have also been rigged for a decade now, and you haven't realized that the Common Cause solution HAVA has now made many many more entire states and counties easily riggable with Diebolds and Sequoia and a myriad of other ways, and you let the November 2006 election be rigged because you don't get up off your duff and do something EFFECTIVE - then the courts will also become packed and it may be too late to fix afterwards. Are you not aware that the US is in so much debt now that our entire government is getting closer to collapse?

This pollyanna view will not help anything. Stop doing pot or get your brain straight!

We must raise the funds to build a national election data archive to instantly collect and analyze election data and we must fight legal battles this year prior to that. It will take a big system:

Not one state in America collects the data at the state level, so it has to be collected from over 33,000 separate county and township offices, most of which do not currently release it in the detail that we need it.

Please see this:

http://electionarchive.org/ucvAnalysis/US/election_officials/ElectionArchive_advice.pdf

See this:

http://uscountvotes.org/ucvData/US/How2CollectData.pdf

In addition, we must have high-speed Internet servers that are very huge and all the data comes in different file formats and different file types and different arrangements within each file from every county. The high-speed servers must be very big to hold all the data, and they must be redundant, backed up and very secure. The monthly cost simply for server co-location is $250/month and then we need to pay a mininum of $500/month just for sysadmin, but probably $2,000 would be more like it.

Then we have to develop systems that are secure for volunteers to upload the data to the server and systems to index and display the original files. Then the most complex part is the systems to program to parse all the myriad of file types from the numerous original files and get it into the database, then programs to display it.

Just to design the database took many months, because another complexity is that every state has different ways of conducting elections, election procedures, etc. We spent many months doing that with volunteer programmers, but we cannot develop it now without staff: staff both to program it, and also staff to work with volunteers and election officials, and that is before we even consider the programming of statistical analyses.

You might think that writing the over a dozen papers with computer scientists and mathematicians was easy and did not take much time, but just this last history paper took me over 5 weeks day and night working constantly.
http://electionarchive.org/ucvAnalysis/US/Presidential-Election-2004.pdf

If no one wants to fund the development of the national election data archive then that is really pitiful that no one cares about democracy to implement this project - the only project that has any hope of ensuring that the right candidates are sworn into office by January 2007.

Even IF you other election activists succeed in ensuring that VVPBs are used and even IF you succeed in ensuring that independent audits are always performed - that will not catch all errors that could change election outcome.

If you guys don't start contributing money or time to this effort, you can kiss your democracy goodbye, maybe forever.

I'm sure that a lot of folks in Hitler's time couln't imagine that he could take over from the German Republic either - (with the help of Bush's grandfather).

Please wake up and help restore American democracy by doing something that has a real chance to do that.

Kathy

I believe they knew the "election" was stolen and that they took that into consideration when they created their plan of action.

Remember, Kerry and Edwards are the last two people that they (Chumpy and Cheeny) should have tried to pull this crap on. Think about it. Kerry the only one to take on Iran Contra and Edwards with his record of taking on and bringing down corporate criminals.

More and more, I know that they knew. I believe. I still believe.

I hope that all the data that has been compiled will be released, announced, spoken of, talked about, etc.

I believe it would be wonderful if on 11/2/05 the Truth would be revealed in a dramatic and public way. That this truth would blow down this house of cards that is our sham government.

continue to work here and elsewhere to make sure the theft of 2004 is completely brought to light.

While there is a long, long way yet to go, nobody (but us) in November 2004 would ever have imagined that we would have gotten this far. We were tin-foil hat wearing conspiracy-theorists, laughed at and mentioned only as fringe kooks in the corporate media. We were supposed to be ashamed, and shut up, or at least stop bothering the sane people. The story was supposed to be DOA.

Instead, the momentum continues to grow, as does the creative activism. We are winning. We will win.

...believers are about to get some high-level support. I posted this, about John Kerry and his recent remarks on the Ed Shultz Show and on Christmas Day on AAR, a couple days ago in another thread:

>>>>

I think he's been gathering evidence for some time now. If you watch his appearances in the past year, you can almost see the transition he's made. I really don't think he WANTED to believe it(the fraud) in the beginning (And, by the way, I didn't either. It's a lot to take in.) But now, it's clear he does. He's a man of conscience. He believes in democracy and the value of citizenship. I don't think his conscience will allow him to just let it go. This is comforting and makes me very grateful... he is a patriotic man and a man who values honor, conscience and duty to country. His words in this interview (AAR on December 25,2005) demonstrate, to me, that he knows the details of what happened in 2004 and he will come forward, if there is proof. Until or unless that happens, I'm willing to trust his judgment. If he does bring this issue forward, with proof, I believe it will be for the purpose of strengthening our election process for "We, the People...".

>>>>>>

Never give up.

Unlike a year ago, election fraud, voting machines, and the whole election process is an ongoing topic of growing interest in the national media. The stories don't stop coming. It was all supposed to be dead and buried by now.

And the overall mendacity of this administration is now causing them escalating trouble in so many areas, as the flying monkeys come home to roost.

His wife, Bernadette, was forced to resign from her position as the Lucas County Elections Director shortly after the 2004 election. Their crimes just reinforce the election fraud of 11/02/04. They are the kinds people who ran the election and counted the votes. More and more people are becoming aware of how dirty that election was. The attention this Noe Coingate/Election Fraud Scandal is getting could not come at a worse time for the election crooks in the White House. They are in trouble.

All those longs months ago, it was a matter of faith that this crime would become a matter of public knowledge.

Now it is a matter of fact that skepticism about voting machines is widespread. The ongoing crimes of this administration have brought this country, and the world, to the point where it is no longer unthinkable that they are in the White House illegally, just as we are in Iraq illegally.

Not giving up yet!

284. And I believe he is right!
What part of this don't they understand up in those Ivory Towers?

This is the deal, Powers-that-Be. You're screwing around with my voting franchise.

That franchise is my "inalienable right", and I aim to use it. And that includes seeing it used the way the Constitution intended. It includes me, and any mother's child of this Nation who wants to, watching the whole bloody process from start to finish, when and if we like.

And I want citizens running my elections, using hand counted paper ballots with totals posted at the precinct. Now what, Powers-that-Be, don't you understand? It's MY vote, you're running the elections, and YOU'RE not responsible for electronically screwing up the last four elections?

Then get this, Powers-that-Be.

This is not YOUR problem, because screwing up my vote made it MY problem! Now, if you don't listen, and fix the elections like I spelled out above, you will quickly find that I am going to make MY problem become YOUR problem!

Capisce?

Now more than ever.

Even with the Supreme Court majority now infiltrated by liars who would uphold stare decisis while effectively neutering those historical precedents, and with a Vice pResident who claims to be beyond the Constitution.

The wisdom of the founders, and the character of the American people, are being tested in a way that perhaps they never have before, not even in WWII when we had a clearly identifiable Axis of evildoers to defeat. Now the enemies are domestic, and the body politic itself has been parasitized and weakened, leaving America dazed and confused. Not to mention horribly abused.

Fuck that.

America is Americans. We're not going to stand for this shit much longer. The heavier the Iron Heel on our necks, the madder we get.

This administration is going the way of the Nazis, the Communists, and anyone else whoever tried to impose their notion of a "new world order" on this country.

296. I believe they keep raising the stakes, as bullies do, thinking we'll back down.
And frankly it's worked well for them, in the sense that they've been able to winnow out, through intimidation and the manipulation of who gets what they call "access" (but what democracy assumes to be everyone's right to know whether their elected officials are doing what they said they'd do), people who would actually fulfill the duties of any government office that placed the people over the Party.

You want a TV show, or a radio show, or your job writing syndicated columns, or a chance to sit in the White House press room? That's all been reshuffled according to the pyramid scheme of Bushie power. First Amendment, fourth estate? There's a new world order.

The ultimate subversion lies in denying access to the nobodies, meaning the voters. Both parties can whip 'em up, and drive 'em out, but in the end there's a cloud of smoke at trail's end, and the men up in the office with the glass windows send down the tallies, and the cows don't have much oversight over the counting and weighing.

But people are not commodities. We are not cattle, and those who make this mistake will find that the engine of American democracy, though it may move in its totality quite slowly, moves nonetheless.

Its momentum needs no personality to spark it, or outcry to wake it from some forgetfulness.

It moves, as it has moved for more than two hundred years, and will impersonally push aside those men who would be king in a nation founded on the rights of the individual.

297. The months since the election of 2004 have been, I believe,
unexpectedly abundant with fruit for everyone who saw that election and knew that it had been stolen, and who believed that if people cared, and spoke, and wrote, without regard for the loneliness or ridicule that came with the task, that the resiliency of American democracy was fully capable of containing and eventually expelling this attack on our system of checks and balances, designed to keep power in the hands of We, the People.

Karl Rove's send-off notices have been noticeably absent any mention of, shall we say, election irregularities. The mainstream corporate media is ignoring, for the moment, the questions about whether or not his genius was actually winning difficult elections, or building a way to steal them.

And so, like a frog very slowly unfrozen from a brick of winter mud, we are slow to realize that the arm of the law is, in fact, as long as we always said, and that justice and karma really won't be cheated, even though sometimes we got too tired or angry to keep believing it ourselves.

For this I credit the decency of the American people that built this country and created and defended its Constitution, the blogosphere and certain constellations of talents that have come into view (DU being my home constellation), and people in the corporate-owned media who, like Keith Olbermann and the resurgent Dan Rather, stood their own ground when the Big Muddy got deep.

However, I'm not opening the bottle of champagne at the back of the fridge's bottom shelf. That was not bought for when Karl Rove left the White House. It was for the filing of criminal charges against Karl Rove for either election fraud or leaking a CIA agent's identity.

But that's okay, because my faith in an American justice system that is administered by people who believe in enforcing the laws and the Constitution keeps being rewarded year by year.

That champagne will stay cold until then.

298. I believe...
Edited on Sun Aug-19-07 04:08 PM by autorank

I believe…

…that when four US Army Sergeants write the most sophisticated NYT OpEd ever on Iraq, the people of the United States are more than ready to know and understand how the forces of fraud and deception have manipulated elections and, as a result, US policy for quite some time. This analysis is a result of the stolen election of 2000 which allowed this illegal and tragic invasion.

The Iraqi government is run by the main coalition partners of the Shiite-dominated United Iraqi Alliance, with Kurds as minority members. The Shiite clerical establishment formed the alliance to make sure its people did not succumb to the same mistake as in 1920: rebelling against the occupying Western force (then the British) and losing what they believed was their inherent right to rule Iraq as the majority. The qualified and reluctant welcome we received from the Shiites since the invasion has to be seen in that historical context. They saw in us something useful for the moment. 301. Inspired by Keith Olbermann's Special Comment tonight
about torture as used by the Bush administration, and the inevitable downfall of this regime because of decent, brave, and honest Americans, I wish to affirm once again:

I believe.

I believe that America is better and stronger than the criminals who have corrupted its institutions to impose fascist ideals where We the People better keep our mouths shut.

I believe that America, for all the faults and unresolved moral quandaries and shortcomings, is a virtuous ideal that the world needs, and that through this virtue, it will continue to spread the possibility of freedom from oppression and material poverty. Not through war, cynical double-talk, and corporate piracy disguised under the veneer of stolen slogans, but through generosity, example, and our ability to maintain our ideals even when we must repel parasitic ideologies that may gain temporary sway over our structures and institutions.

Thank you, Mr. Olbermann. Your courage, your eloquence, and the fact that you just plain give a damn about what America stands for is inspiring, and yet further evidence of the fact that we are right to believe.

and serendipity spread us all over the corruption of our government, broadcast like seed over a warm field.

I believe that nothing can stop the wave of thoughtful reform that will result from that first insult.

We who were taught, and who learned, to care about the miracle of representative democracy embodied in the Constitution, subscribed to a miracle which, like life, will prosper in every nook and cranny of whatever seeks to suppress it.

Thank you for the poetry inside the truth.

Been looking at that sentence for a few weeks. Logic tells me it would be Cheney that goes to jail for a long time but I cannot be certain because of sentence construction.

When you wrote I believe John Conyers will impeach Dick Cheney and that he will then go to jail...., I tried to remember what Mssrs. Strunk and White call that construction. It's a... what is it again...? A strangling barnacle? No! A Phalangist article? Naw....

312. Now that Barack Obama is the Democratic nominee for the Presidency of the United States,
I believe that we are seeing the resiliency of the American dream, and the American people, in action.

Obama spoke very eloquently last night about how the promise of a better future is essential to the very idea of America.

Bush and Cheney have woven a dark spell over this country, making mockeries of its very foundations and turning its most precious documents into idle pieces of paper. The best we could hope for, in the half-world their spell created, was not to be attacked again by enemies who lurk in every shadow and seek to kill us for no rational reason.

To hear Obama speak again to the true ideals of what makes America great was profoundly moving. The reign of witches is coming to an end, and America will be America again.

It's an RNC co-ordinated strawman story that won't stand up to scrutiny.

Sure, it will give them something to complain about after Obama wins, but it's a measure of their delusion that they think it's equivalent to the volumes of data from the last three national elections.

They don't get it, and they're busy sharpening a jack knife in preparation for a shooting war.

I, for one, will lend them a knife sharpener.

It's all part of the rotten mantle of manipulation of our electoral system that is doomed to fail.

And I agree with you. It's a ringer. ACORN was attacked on 2004 and 2006 and they prevailed. This is nonsense but there's great value in the charges. Last gasp of DOJ's "voter fraud" scam.

There could be ringers, which wouldn't surprise me, but no ACORN higher ups would risk this, none of them.

332. And this is their latest effort.....
I am as concerned about protecting the US homeland and the lives of American citizens and residents as any conservative, or other American. But the latest McCain camp negative ad strategy doesn't primarily come out of a concern for national security. It instead shows up as intent upon defeat of e the opposition by any means deemed necessary, including lies.

If you visit the site you'll see two videos displayed that illustrate what the article describes.

Article transcript:

McCain's Last Ditch Effort: Tying Obama To Muslim World
stumble digg reddit del.ico.us news trust mixx.com October 29, 2008 04:31 PM

John McCain's campaign is making what appears to be a final, full-throated effort to paint Barack Obama as a sympathizer with the Muslim world. In the process they are putting out into the public domain as many images as possible of Obama's face cast over a map of the Middle East.

The latest salvo came Wednesday afternoon, when the Republican nominee released a web ad placing Obama's visage in front of an outline of Iran, and presenting aspects of the Senator's foreign policy alongside music traditionally associated with a Muslim call to prayer.

"Obama doesn't have preconditions but Iran does. Iran, whose president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Israel must be wiped off the map. Iran demands that the U.S. must cease its support of Israel and that all U.S. military forces must leave the Middle East, meaning we abandon Iraq, Turkey and Kuwait. What will Obama do? Will he admit he was wrong or will he accept Iran's demands?'

The spot seems designed either to frighten voters away from Obama or confuse them into thinking the Illinois Democrat is more comfortable supporting Iranian interests than domestic concerns. The campaign put it out on the web, where provocative items are placed mainly to grab the media attention.

Indeed, the Republican ticket has been subtly pushing this line for days now. As the Huffington Post reported on Tuesday, the Republican Party of Florida is sending out a new mailer that places the Illinois Democrat's face right over a map of Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Saudi Arabia. It accuses him of being "dangerously unprepared" and "no friend of Israel."

Hours earlier, the McCain campaign had taken the step of reissuing an old campaign ad (for what purpose, it isn't clear) that declared Obama had once called the threat from Iran: "tiny."

Additionally, McCain officials have been howling over video of a party attended by Obama and Columbia University professor Rashid Khalidi, an outspoken advocate for Palestinian rights. The story has been fueled by revelations that the Los Angeles Times has video footage of that party which the paper is refusing to release (citing an agreement with the providing source). But, as Seth Colter Walls reported, McCain has ties of his own to that very professor.

"During the 1990s, while he served as chairman of the International Republican Institute (IRI), McCain distributed several grants to the Palestinian research center co-founded by Khalidi, including one worth half a million dollars."

Taken together, the ads, flier and new line of attack seem designed to paint Obama as, at best too weak to handle the dangers of the Arab world or at worst, an 'outsider' in his own right. It is an attack that has followed Obama around since the early months of the primary and seems likely to continue to the day of the election.

334. Three and a half years ago we started this thread,
and now, three days from taking back our government, we see the evidence of the theft of the 2004 election continuing to grow, and the momentum to reveal the truth continuing to build.

We breathed deep, we got mad, and we did whatever we could to see justice prevail. We're not there yet; the crimes of this regime extend far beyond their theft of the White House. But we've come an incredibly long way.

What was once considered tin-foil hat conspiracy theory is now so close to common knowledge that major news networks are covering election integrity issues every day, and providing their own hotlines for reporting voting problems. The question of whether or not people's votes will be counted is on everyone's minds.

America's eyes are open.

I believe.

edit: Do you remember that video from 4 years ago that showed the election being stolen in Ohio, people standing in the rain, for hours and hours? Is there a copy somewhere? Thanks!

337. After all this time, almost 4 years, I still believe. I'm holding my
breath, waiting to exhale once Obama is elected. I can barely breathe right now. I am hopeful. I am nervous. I wonder if it will be a fair election like the ones I used to know? I wonder if it will be a landslide for Democrats?

I am so thrilled that in just a short period of time, this nightmare of the * Administration will be over and we can get on to the business of indicting and imprisoning this criminal cabal.

Thanks Bleever for keeping the faith and for keeping this thread alive all this time.

338. The national awareness of the question of the integrity of the vote
is amazing!

Even more amazing: the awareness and competence of the Obama campaign regarding election fraud. Inside info from a fellow DUer involved in Obama's Ohio election protection efforts indicates that every t will be crossed, every i will be dotted, and that the lessons of 2000 and 2004 have not been ignored by this campaign.

I'm proud of people like you, texpat, who've kept this thread alive, and kept alive the hope and belief that in the face of a monumental crime, justice would triumph.

342. "Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after justice: for they
shall have their fill." Matthew 5:6

I am a believer Bleever. I believe in landslides and I am very grateful for this one. I am more hopeful and feel more secure knowing that Obama and Biden will be in charge. They will inherit quite a mess, but at least they are capable of handling these challenges.

I believe in Howard Dean's 50 state strategy. I am proud of America for the first time since 1999 and I am certainly proud of the Democrats.

343. Best wishes tonight
to you, texpat, and everyone who nourished the smallest flame of hope and belief when we were the most defeated.

There's so much more to be done, but we know it can be done.

344. I believe we still have a lot of work to do.

Even with this historic election, we still have far too many people voting on unverifiable touchscreen and pushbutton DREs.

Even with this historic election, we still have far too many people facing disenfranchisement by poor registration practices along with outright deliberate methods of taking them off and keeping them off the voter rolls.

Even with this historic election, we still have far too many people facing deceptive and hostile practices when they do make it to the polls and try to vote.

I believe we still have a lot of work to do.

350. Truth endures.
With the suspicious death of Mike Connell, there has been some discussion of whether or not we will ever really know what happened in the 2004 election, as well as others in which he played a role for his party.

But I believe that the need for justice is so deeply felt by so many people that events like this will only serve to redouble the efforts of those who want the truth to be known, and justice to be done.

We have a new president, but we can't really claim victory without restoring the integrity of the rule of law, of our elections, and of the Constitution.

One man may be dead, but the truth endures.
