A letter about voting from my paelo-conservative Congressman
This is my congressman - Jimmy Duncan, a paelo-conservative. I wrote
him about the voting issues and here's his reply, which is very nice,
considering I was blasting his party:

Dear Me:

Thank you for contacting me regarding your concerns about the results
of the 2004 presidential election. I always appreciate hearing from
the people whom I represent in the Congress.
I understand your concerns about how the ballots were tabulated in the
recent presidential election. I agree with points made by The
Washington Post right after the 2004 election that we need to continue
working on the flaws in the electoral system that came to light in the
200 election, as well as correcting some of the unintended
difficulties that were created by the passage of the Help America Vote
Act in 2002.
You can be assured that this will be an important issue to be
addressed as the recently-convened 109th Congress progresses. You will
be pleased to know in the meantime, however, that I have agreed to
cosponsor the Know Your Vote Counts Act.
Congressman Steve King of Iowa introduced this bill to amend the Help
America Vote Act and require voting systems to print a paper record
for each ballot that the voter can verify for accuracy before the
ballot is cast. This makes a recount possible in the event that a
state determines one is needed. To preserve ballot secrecy, the Act
prohibits voters from copying or removing the record from a polling place.
As for the counting of Electoral votes, I must report that
COngresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones' challenge to the Electoral votes
from the state of Ohio was rejected by both the House and Senate. The
vote was 267 to 31 in the House and 74-1 in the Senate. Only Senator
Barbara Boxer of California voted to accept the challenge in the Senate.
Closing...

OK. I cannot possibly keep up with this board all day, every day - so will someone tell me, in plain English, which one of the many bills up is the Know Your Vote Counts Act. Duncan is apparently a co-sponsor. And how is this different that some of the ones the Dems put up. He doesn't give me a bill number, so I don't know if I'm looking at the correct legislation.
Help, please, thanks!

BTW, this paelo-con Congressman voted against the IWR and the subsequent $87 billion. He believes we shouldn't have gone to war during a recession with such flimsy evidence. He's not a Dem, but he's the closest thing East Tennessee is going to get to one.

1. Hate to kick my own post, but does anyone have a clue
what he's talking about?
He doesn't give me a bill or resolution number. I want to reply and tell him what I think is wrong or right with the bill he's sponsoring - he's very accessible and, this is my only hope in doing something about this.
I mean, come on, my senators are Frist and Alexander! :puke:
