I would like to thank each and every one of you DU'ers
for keeping America alive. You are ever vigilant. Day after day after
day I hear of the typical American citizen being totally oblivious to what is
happening to this once great country of ours. The erosion of everything
this country stands for is so abrasive, but people seem to just let
"the other guy" handle it. And thus, the insidious neocons work to
enslave the masses. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer. But
as long as Joe American can feed his kids, that's all he cares about.

So fellow DU'ers, pat yourself on the back, kick the shit off your
boots, and keep up the wonderful work you are doing. With the sentinels
here and on other boards, we may just turn this country around. NO
thanks to the sheep.

God bless you.

5. From one bear to another, thanks.
Thanks kindly. Your sentiments are mine also. As my Hopi teachers would say, "we are the ones we have been waiting for." See my earlier post.

6. "we are the ones we have been waiting for."
Interesting...I was musing on everything last month, and had a thought/feeling that this is one of the reasons I/we were put on this earth... To be a part of this movement. It is hard to put into words the profundity of the realization, but it is akin to the statement in the subject line. Thanks for posting that.

9. I'll post the entire Hopi Elders prayer when I get home.
It has been my inspiration for political and social action from the first moment a Montana friend sent it to me. I'll post it later -- it is refrigerator door material, to be sure.

13. The Hopi Elders Prayer
This has been my morning meditation for the past year. It has really taken on much meaning in the last few months. We have much to be thankful for, including the fast flowing river. See all who are there among us and celebrate.
-----------------
From the Hopi Elders

You have been telling the people that this is the Eleventh Hour.
Now you must go back and tell the people that this is The Hour.

Here are the things that must be considered:
Where are you living?
What are you doing?
What are your relationships?
Are you in right relation?
Where is your water?

Know our garden.
It is time to speak your Truth.

Create your community.
Be good to each other.
And do not look outside yourself for the leader.

This could be a good time!

There is a river flowing now very fast.
It is so great and swift that there are those who will be afraid.
They will try to hold on to the shore.
They will feel like they are being torn apart, and they will suffer greatly.

Know the river has its destination.
The elders say we must let go of the shore, push off toward the middle of the river,
keep our eyes open, and our heads above the water.
See who is there with you and celebrate.

At this time in history, we are to take nothing personally, least of all ourselves!
For the moment we do, our spiritual growth and journey comes to a halt.

The time of the lonely wolf is over. Gather yourselves!
Banish the word struggle from your attitude and vocabulary.
All that we do now must be done in a sacred manner and in celebration.

We are the ones we have been waiting for.

The Elders, Oraibi, Arizona, Hopi Nation

12. We are the ones we have been waiting for. Yes.
I've had the same extremely profound realization. I feel frightened, upset because this "gets in the way of my life", and privileged that I have a chance to step into the shoes of the heros and heroines of history. We didn't chose this battle, the battle has chosen us.

18. I've had similar thoughts that have made me feel we are kinda lucky
- to go from a depraved life of ignorance and distorted reality to an elevated knowledge of the truth and the realization that we live a life of hypocrisy and that some are trying to steal from us.

I went from thinking that the hypocrisy of our country took the form of saying all men are created equal versus knowing that some in our government and some citizens didn't want equality - to - learning that some in the highest realms of leadership consider us their enemies - and that they want to control our mind, body, and soul. I learned that these groups don't want us to have free speech, free movement, a vote, responsible leadership and representatives in OUR government, sovereignty for other countries, respect for the law, peace, prosperity, honesty and respect for our families and neighbors.

The exposure and pace of discovery is stunning. We seem to have been given a gift of pure concern and a desire to stop the erosion.

Some are watching the earth. Some are watching human rights. All are fighting by learning even when activism is limited.

Thank you for saying that. Lately I feel like I have absorbed too much too fast, and am not sure where to go from here. Though ignorance might be bliss to some in this day and time, which I think is why many don't want to hear about all this, I just don't know how I can give up this vigilance now...it is just too dangerous, and we know too much.

8. and thank you, bigbearjohn
yes, I was thinking that--as we thank the congressionals for their stand on Jan 6, we also must thank those here--some representing progressive groups and many just on their own--ALL who have put in time and energy, no matter how long and no matter how much. We who are doing our best-- to INSIST on true democracy in the face of an overwhelming abuse of power. Along with everything else there is to object to, we must not let these election issues be swept under the rug like a dirty little secret nobody is supposed to know about.

But I have to put in some words of defense here for Joe American. Not everybody has the time, energy, or vision as we do. And the sheeple have been manipulated by powerful forces. They are working harder than ever before and getting less and less for it. They are isolated, marginalized, kept at the end of a product-oriented feeding trough. I don't blame them for seeking an outlet in TV or talk radio. For many it is the only distraction from a grim reality, a scary reality. I don't even blame them for joining RW churches that give them an instant sense of community in these fearful days punctuated by "terrorist alerts." It's pathetic but human. And we live in a society where there are few alternatives to TV or the shopping mall. (not saying shopping is bad, just when consumption is the only form of recreation) We need community centers, recreation and sports centers for kids, parks, educational programs (some libraries do this), etc. We progressives, in shaping a new voice, need to reach out to the Sheeple. They are not stupid, just vulnerable and exploited.

But I certainly agree with you in the larger sense that it is time for those who have awakened to lead. There is something going on here--a kind of group wish or prayer(as opposed to groupthink). A coming together of we the people to reclaim our rightful place, to realize our common dreams, and NOT to put up with this theft of EVERYTHING we hold sacred and positive in our society. Such supreme arrogance must be fought. We have only just begun to not get over it. end of speech. :toast: TO US! And yes, Rep Conyers, we know who we are....

14. If we don't stop this train Joe American WON'T be able to feed his kids
Edited on Thu Jan-13-05 07:28 PM by bush_is_wacko
One of the many reasons I got involved here is that I have been watching my husband's friends who are mechanics and 5 years ago were making a pretty good living. Since * took office these guys have taken up wards of a 50-55% pay cut! They still have the same mouths to feed and the same bills. Many of them are on the verge of losing everything! My husband and I saw the trend before it could destroy us. He is out of the business, but we still love and respect all of his friends that feel trapped. They don't have enough money to put food on the table. College and changing career's is not something they feel is an option. I would tell people to boycott some of the companies they work for, but that would only take more food out of their mouths! It is a conundrum that has no end.

BTW be on the lookout for BIG, HUGE, GIGANTIC government job cuts. * is planning to do away with just about every government employee position you can think of. He wants to privatize everything. Of course the infernal IRS office will be there till the bitter end, but I think his "simplification" for taxes plan is to get rid of that department too. We have friends in those jobs too. *'s agenda will lead us into the Greatest Depression this country has ever known.

Sorry about the rant! sometimes I just need to get it off my chest!

21. Pity the sheep, the brainwashed! Keep trying to inform them!
I've thought a lot about the sheep--and I don't mean the hopeless ones who think Jesus put Bush in the White House. I mean Kerry voters and other intelligent people who can't seem to awaken from the delusion of 11/2.

I know a really smart and dear person, close to me, who believed Colin Powell's B.S. at the U.N. She thought there was reason to invade Iraq. They managed to scare her. So I sent her a few articles, and pretty much left her alone. She's a very busy and committed educational administrator. It took time. But she eventually saw through it.

Very busy. That's one of the problems with some people. So they try to keep up with the news (being good citizens) by grabbing bits off TV and scanning headlines. And they DO NOT understand what this does to their perception of the world.

In denial--that's another problem. They just can't bring themselves to believe that things are that bad--fascist coup, second stolen election (and they always say, "but Kerry conceded"!). If they DID believe it, then they would feel compelled to become nutso activists like we are, but they have other responsibilities, so can't do that (or don't think they can). It's almost as if their personal sense of responsibility (that they would have to act) prevents them from seeing the problem or believing (or even wanting to know) the facts.

Illusion. Self-delusion. Deliberate blindness. And (I think) outright, literal brainwashing.

Now, the kind of people I just described--and many other kinds of people (less educated, less civic-minded)--eventually saw through ALL the BushCon B.S. The scare tactics. The lies. The propaganda. And broke through the brainwashing, and voted Bush out. But it did take them time.

On Iraq, it took most people a year. A year! (--from before the invasion when most people wanted diplomacy first and U.N. approval, through the invasion when many put doubts aside and "supported our troops," to the slow revelation, almost by word of mouth, that it was all lies and falsehood, which is now common knowledge).

They worked it through. They "got" it. And they've done that on every issue.

But the problem is, they don't realize what the source of the disinformation is--the TV news, mostly. They forget HOW they were misinformed--and thus are vulnerable to being misinformed again.

I think that's the heart of the problem: This way that people have of relinquishing their sense of reality to television. (The "if it's not on TV, it's not real" syndrome.)

So, all I'm saying is: Know what you're dealing with. You're dealing with BRAINWASHING.

And what do you do with a brainwashed person? Treat them gently. Give them reality in small doses. Reinforce their sense of integrity, intelligence and personal power. Don't attack them! Give them information. Let them figure it out.

And anything we can do to undermine the TV news delusion would be very useful, I think.

Maybe it's that people WANT to feel they are part of the whole, part of a national community, so they project that need on to the TV, and don't realize what a false, delusional, and entirely manipulated thing it is that they are getting back.

A lot of people don't HAVE community any more, so they look to the TV to create that sense of belonging.

Actually, I remember that feeling--before I got rid of the TV. Plugged in. A part of things. A part of a bigger thing, the city, the nation, the world. It is very seductive--even to people who don't watch that much TV. It's more how they regard it, than how much of it they watch.

One more bit of advice: If they start overcoming the brainwashing (say, on election fraud), then give them some simple things to do (sign a petition, email an official, donate money where it's needed). Nothing like action to fend off despair and fear regarding the real situation our country is in.
