Jim Hightower says "Put The PARTY back in Democratic Party
One of the fond memories I have from the last year was hosting a fund raiser for True Majority (don't you just love that oreo animation?) which included Jim Hightower as the featured speaker. We need someone like this Texas Populist to put some sense back in the Democratic Party. After the fundraiser, friends came over for a dinner we hosted for Jim. One of the more memorable things that stuck with me that night was Jim saying:

"We need to put the party back in the Democratic Party."

He said that in Texas, a group of dems would get together for a barbeque and that was the political meetings of the day. He is absolutly right. Who here wants to sit through boring meetings. Why not make it a fun thing. I did this with my precinct captains. Come over for drinks and dinner and talk about what we need to get done. It makes working on projects much more enjoyable. I have gained so many new friends and this past year.

4. We were Dean supporters until the primaries then switched over to Kerry.
We have young children,( hense the "mom" )so meet-up times never worked for us. We organized within our community where we could let kids come, or else plan for group babysitting.

2. I'm thinkin, let's conspire to be overtaken by the Clampers
Edited on Sat Jan-08-05 07:23 PM by EVDebs
a secret POWERFUL society of funloving beer guzzling good ol' boys and girls. You want to know where W was during his 'Lost Year' ? He was with us until we kicked his sorry butt outta our or-gan-i-zation and erased all a his brain cells.

And that movie "National Treasure" ? It's about where our ceremonial secret worshipful still was hidden.

Furthermore, E Clampus Vitus is behind many of the Dan Brown novel- inspiring secret society novels (remember "Angels and Demons" ?).

ECV has the Knights of Malta and the Illuminati a shakin and a quakin in their boots already. The Freemasons and Knight Templar recoil at the mere mention of our name. The streets of DC are oriented upon a Masonic grid pattern, but if you look real closely, you will see that the outhouses near the Smithsonian are shaped in pattern of the constellation Orion, much revered in Clamper lore (a 'shucky darn' moment for all the uninitiated). Be forewarned.

Even the CIA seeks to control them and former naval intelligence Lt. j.g. Bob Woodward is rumored to have tried to inflitrate to no avail, he is way way way overqualified for our illustrious assemblage. Won't comment on his partyin' pardner Bernstein, however, who's known to be ECV material, iffin' ya know what I mean. Wooderd can sip sherries with Greenspan, we'll take quaffs with Bernstein, especially after his Rolling Stone piece "The CIA and The Media" in Oct. 1977.

Former Redskins running back John Riggins is said to have made his famous remark "Lighten up, Sandy baby" after coming to a DC press club dinner after a Clamper lodge meeting and being seated next to Justice Sandra Day O'Connor. Way to go Johnny ! They can't take it with them and you show'd 'em. http://www.townhall.com/columnists/jaybryant/jb20040721.shtml

The Clampers do not solicit membership, so don't expect us to go a lookin' fer ya'll, ya hear ?

Signed
Grand Pobob of the East

Republicans are usually not allowed membership under ANY circumstances. Too judgemental and good judgement spoils a good time.

"Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy" - ECV member Benjamin Franklin, 1776.

9. Our acid was supplied by the CIA.... in fact, Leary's supply
Edited on Sat Jan-08-05 08:30 PM by EVDebs
came from our neck of the woods. Think I'm kiddin' eh ? Read
"Acid Dreams: The Complete Social History of LSD, The Sixties, and Beyond" by Martin A. Lee and Bruce Shlain ... the brotherhood of eternal love, etc., etc.

http://www.spinelessbooks.com/bookviews/LeeM_AD.html

Who'd ya think sent Dr Tim into orbit ? The company, with Clamper help of course. In fact, Clay Shaw tried to fob off JFK's murder onto us'n but we wouldn't take kindly to being used by the CIA. In fact, we USE THEM for our nefarious purposes. Capt'n Tripps indeed !

We were considering membership applications by none other than Sen Orrin Hatch and his pardner in crime Robert F. Bennett but since Bennett had already been used by the company once (during Watergate as Mullen & Co. director) and Orrin is, well, the biggest stick in the mud this side of Kabul, we had to pass. Nuthin personal, just not real good ol boys who'll git 'er done. Now those MIT and CalTech kids who put Mickey Mouse hands on the UCBerkeley campanile and shorted out the CalTech elevators during finals and to top it off spilled buteric acid all over the hallways...they are honorary 33rd degree Clampers.

8. For Kucinich, Dean, MoveOn
groups, that is one thing that made the House Parties so successful. A lot of the Kucinich ones were great pot-luck dinners followed by the old salon type discussions. Kucinich Meet-Ups were generally a lot of fun as well. And all of those folks who did visualization activities like Burma Shave type signs held up along freeways by real people and highway bannering all had a lot more fun than they did when they were doing plain ol, (but necessary) canvassing and phone banking.

People tried to make phone banking fun, by doing it in groups with cell phones.

But Hightower (one of my heros) is certainly correct. And the more folks you can recruit to the serious work with some fun activities between the drudge work, the better.

Good reminder - thanks!
