Gregoire to concede at 5pm tomorrow if recount funds are not raised.
Edited on Fri Dec-03-04 02:38 AM by Casablanca
This is reported this evening on KIRO 4. Had coverage of a very tired looking Chris Gregoire saying exactly this.

It sounds like she's getting just as pissed off at DNC reticence as many of us are.

It just frosts me that the Democrats are willing to see Repubs make an incursion into the West Coast Dem territory. A Rossi win will give the Repubs more leverage into the WA state election system.

... but your donations are very much appreciated here. Let's see if the DNC wants to defend a governor post or not.

I hope she gets that money and uses it for a recount, too. I was under the impression, from them, that this was exactly why I was contributing.

Although I really can't afford to donate, I will do so if it gets really close to the wire. I suspect others are in the same boat.

I gave all my recount $ to Kerry, and although I wish he'd cough up more, I am only hoping he might be saving it for his own recount.

21. Thank you lovely people, from a Washingtonian
for your willingness to contribute, and I know everyone is tired, tapped out and wondering where all the $$ contributed to date on behalf of DNC is going.

This is posted also over at Common Ground, Common Sense
http://www.commongroundcommonsense.org/index.php?showtopic=8241&hl=

and I added my own comment, repeating here;

Thanks for the update, this was also posted over at DU, and folks there are contributing, with a certain amount of understandable grumbling. My understanding is the Kerry gave $250,000 which is probably the bulk of what Gregoire has raised up to this hour.

It appears she is asking the DNC to kick loose with some money and I agree the DNC should do so, in good faith effort. They certainly didn't do so hot with Kerry campaign. And it's unimaginable to me that they wouldn't support the democratic governor candidate for blue WA state. Quite frankly, if WA has a republican governor who is clearly in the Bush camp and mind think (read lockstep), then our beautiful state will suffer immensely. Say goodbye to our forests, our abundant blue waters, the end of salmon as a species, not to mention what would become of our generous social programs which are more progressive than in many states.

We are a blue state, and while I know there are some counties voting republican, I seriously doubt it is enough votes to outrun the democratic vote here in WA where I live and know my state.

We are the epitome of "tree huggers", latte-drinking, green staters and not inclined to kick up a big fuss. So if Gregoire is saying she thinks something smells, then something smells. If she believes an entire state recount is warranted, then likely it is. It's not as much that I support Gregoire (and yes, of course I voted for her), as much as it is that I know my state, as does she, so if she is calling for action, then it has merit.

my 2 cents.

Edited on Fri Dec-03-04 10:24 AM by DTinAZ
The link provided at the top of this topic produces a security error in both Internet Explorer and Firefox (Mozilla) due to a technical glitch on the server level (details aren't important). In order to avoid the error, use this link instead:

https://www.wa-democrats.org/site/contribute.php

(in IE, you might still get an error about a mix of "secure" and "nonsecure" items, but that's something you should simply "OK")

37. I just called the DNC and lost my temper
Edited on Fri Dec-03-04 11:57 AM by Straight Shooter
I got a voice mail of Vince Fry and explained that a lot of Democrats were giving until they were tapped out, that we've given to Kerry's campaign, to his GELAC, to the DNC, to recount efforts in New Hampshire and Ohio and also Washington, and the DNC needs to PONY UP!!

Sometimes I forget how angry I am that the "leadership" has to be led by the nose by the people it's supposed to be serving.

:grr:

edit: DNC contact number: 202-863-8000 Ask for someone who is handling Washington recount, because the nice woman who answers is just the switchboard operator

39. The DNC gave $250,000...
It's written up in the Seattle Times today, but they are still short by $100,000 for a statewide recount according to the Seattle times.

"Berendt said Kerry donated $250,000 to the effort from his left-over campaign funds. The Democratic National Committee gave $250,000.

And Berendt said former Democratic presidential candidate Howard Dean made a pitch to his supporters for donations. As of yesterday afternoon, more than 3,000 people had responded, donating a total of more than $100,000, Berendt said. "

43. A recount will go forward - not sure yet whether the candidate will.
A poster on the "24 hour deadline ..." thread mentioned that Gregoire is still saying that she'll concede at 5pm today - haven't verified this yet.

Hopefully this isn't going to be the case. The last thing the recount effort needs is a split between the candidate and the WA Dem party.

this was posted today at DU, I'll get the url link and add it.
Thank you!! Thank you!! Thank you, all you dear, dear people!
from this Washingtonian.

KOMO NEWS ALERT: Washington Democrats will finance a full hand recount of 2.9 million ballots cast for governor more than a month ago.

Up as a news alert on http://www.komotv.com /

Press comference scheduled for 2 pm, more when available...

ON EDIT: new link here:

http://www.kirotv.com/politics/3966185/detail.html

Democrats Have Funds For Recount

OLYMPIA, Wash. -- Washington Democrats, hoping the third time's the charm, will pay for yet another recount in the state's ultra-close governor's race that remains unsettled after more than a month.

The party also is heading to the state Supreme Court to seek a ruling that all ballots be treated the same from county to county.

Top-ranking Democratic sources said the party has raised the necessary $700,000-plus to recount all 2.9 million votes cast for governor on Nov. 2 -- not just votes in selected counties. A flood of online contributions put the party over the top, the sources said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

Party leaders, including the state chairman and the three most recent Democratic governors, scheduled a news conference to announce the development.

46. My read though is that only enough $$$$'s were coughed up for "Selected"
recount and only in certain counties. Sounds like "Gore 2000" to me. She couldn't get enough for a Full State Recount...

But, still I think our DNC/DLC needs to kick in here. We contributed enough to get the "Filing Fee" now it's time for her PARTY to support her and how many of us have given to the "Party" who let us down by conceding?

Give and Give if you can afford it...but we gave enough to get her started...we aren't a "Cash Cow" here...time for more than Kerry to chip in.
