Well, no surprise there. However, on the video, the copper says he's 99% sure his phone was hacked, but he did nothing about it. Did it not occur to him that someone might have been doing this to nefarious ends?

As I see it, he's one of two things. Totally incompetent...

I expect a mixture of all three were present in this case.

By the nature of their jobs press and police cross paths a lot just like media and the politicians.

Each has an interest in what the other group is doing so it is inevitable that they talk and that sometimes information is exchanged.

The problem occurs when this activity becomes a formal market place for trading personal data particularly when there is no actual crime or true public interest political story driving the process. Worse the system then becomes open to abuse by those with the deepest pockets and the means to buy influence. Once that stage is reached the whole thing soon descends into entrenched corruption.
