The Suffolk ripper?
The murder rate in Ipswich is getting more then a little worrying. I was in Ipswich on Saturday night celebrating Sheffield Wednesday beating Norwich and a large part of the town center was shut off due to a murder and some shootings at an Ipswich nightclub. :scared: And then of course there is the whole matter of the dead prozzies. :scared: :scared: :scared: :scared: Folk round these parts are pretty worried. Let's hope they catch the bugger sharpish.

Police investigating the deaths of three prostitutes have said they are concerned for two other missing women.

The naked bodies of Gemma Adams, Tania Nicol and a third woman have been found near Ipswich in the past eight days.

Suffolk Police are searching for a fourth prostitute Paula Clennell, 24, and a fifth woman, Annette Nicholls, also a prostitute.

Assistant Chief Constable Jacqui Cheer urged women, particularly in the party season, not to go out at night alone.

1. Very worrying. It looks more and more as if there is a real psychopath ...

2. A thought-provoking and sobering comment from Maggie O' Kane on GU.

3. Murder police find two more dead
Two more bodies have been found by police investigating the murders of three prostitutes.

A woodland area around the village of Levington, near Ipswich, has been sealed off by officers.

Police said it is likely the two bodies are those of two missing women - Paula Clennell and Annette Nicholls.

The area is close to where the body of Anneli Alderton was found on Sunday. The bodies of Gemma Adams, and Tania Nicol, were found near Ipswich.

4. Horrendous. Let us hope that this sick, sick man ... and of course, it will be a man ....
.. is found as soon as possible.

Of course, one would like to think that this will re-awaken the whole issue of prostitution (and the closely related area of heroin addiction)in modern society and how we deal with it, but the cynic in me suspects that once the real-life detective story is over, the working girls, their pimps/pushers and their "clients" will disappear back under the rock where we prefer to hide them...

5. I'm interested to know
how you can be so sure that it is A man. In the interview I heard with the the DCS he was he shied away (seemingly deliberately) from the suggestion that there was one sole perpetrator.

6. The reason they were suggesting their might be two ...
... is because of the strength needed to perpetrate the murders.

So yes, if there are two, one might be a woman, I guess ...

11. I agree with all you say
In the immediate term, I hope he is caught before he can kill anyone else.

In the long term, I hope that it leads to some more genuine consideration of these hgrribly exploited people, but, like you, I suspect it won't.

7. This reminds me of the plot from the most recent Frost novel
The local prostitutes are ending up savagely raped and murdered, and in the end, it turned out the killings were done by a lesbian couple pretending to be from the main minicab firm, one of whom worked on cab firm's switchboard.

So the assumption that it's a man could be wrong

8. OT: Being neither a Frost reader nor a forensic pathologist ...
... I would have thought that there would be significant differences
between a rape by a man and a rape by a lesbian couple? Or was this
another case that the evidence was being interpreted to suit the
accused?

13. Yes ... I guessed that bit ...
... I just didn't think of the possibility of a man using a "tool"
instead of a "tool" hence didn't see why the difference was obvious ...

12. You could name any number of crime novels and TV series here
The one that sticks in my mind in relation to this is an excellent Channel 4 drama a few months ago called "Low Winter Sun".

Mind you, I'm not all that keen on basing my own views on works of fiction. Just look at the eejits who think that the Vae Dinci Cod is all true. :eyes:

10. Seems the News of the Screws is offering a handsome reward for evidence.
The seedy little man with the raincoat and Bobby Charlton haircut assured BBC News 24 that it definitely WASN'T a cynical circulation booster.

Pheww! They had me worried there ...

16. They have a statement about it
OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM THE RSVP TRUST.
All who are involved with RSVP's Bridge Project have been deeply saddened by the deaths of the women we had befriended. Our prayers are with their families and friends.

We are also concerned about the women who remain working on the streets and will continue to support them.

We currently have nothing to add to what we have said to the BBC and Anglia News teams and are not available for any further interviews. We are not able to respond to any further communications from the press or media.

We urge everyone to pray for a conclusion to these tragic events.

That used to say:

The Bridge Project

Motivated by love, life & the teachings of Jesus Christ, the Bridge exists to rescue women involved in prostitution from addictive, exploitative & abusive lifestyles.
For the purpose of healing, social and personal integration, wholeness and restoration.

To contact, befriend and build relationships with women in prostitution.

To provide support to those wanting to exit prostitution .

To provide a meeting place where women can receive: discipleship, literature lessons, practical skills training, have fun (art/ poetry/ drama expression) All of these provide a launch pad to building self - esteem & restore self value.

I did see a man - Don Egan, I think - from them briefly interviewed on the news. Given how annoying much of the British media can be, this may just be their quick way of telling them to go away.

17. Just as an update...
...someone called Steve Wright has been found guilty on all 5 counts of murder, and on the same day a large chunk of Ipswich town centre has been shut off due to a paticularly nasty rape. What on earth must everyone else think of Ipswich now?

18. Just as an update...
...someone called Steve Wright has been found guilty on all 5 counts of murder, and on the same day the Government chose to admit to telling repeated untruths about extraordinary rendition. Another good day to bury bad news - things really are different under Blair's sidekick and anointed successor aren't they?

19. If it weren't the Steve Wright murder case....
...it would be headlines about Gazza and a drop in numbers on Facebook in the papers this morning. Not extraordinary rendition. Like or not that's what people are more interested in.

that's returned to the headlines now that Wright and Dixie have been put away.
