Poll puts Liberals in Front
By CAMPBELL CLARK

Friday, April 29, 2005 Updated at 4:57 AM EST

Ottawa — Liberals have clawed their way back into the lead in a tight race for public support as Prime Minister Paul Martin's all-out public-relations campaign appears to have caused the Conservatives to slip, a new poll shows.

The poll, conducted by the Strategic Counsel for The Globe and Mail and CTV, found the Liberals with the support of 30 per cent of Canadians, compared with 28 per cent for the Conservatives and 18 per cent for the New Democrats.

The results strike a blow at Conservative Leader Stephen Harper's hopes for victory just one day after he vowed to force an election "at the earliest possible opportunity."

The Conservatives went from a six-point lead to a two-point deficit in 10 days. In Ontario, they trail by eight points.

1. This is good news, Harper isn't able to sell his false message
and it shows, yet again, Canadians do NOT support forcing a snap election. I think Canadians are getting Gomery fatigue and election talk fatigue which will result in Harper continuing to lose any gains he might have made.

2. Looks like another poll is saying the same plus
a third poll is saying the bloc doesn't have as much support as has been reported:

Polls show Tories have lost their lead

OTTAWA - Two new polls show the federal Conservative party has lost its lead in public opinion across Canada in the past week.

And a third poll, taken just in Quebec, indicates support for separatism may not be as high as another survey showed earlier this week.

The two national polls, by GPC Research and Strategic Counsel, each have a margin of error that puts the Liberals and Conservatives in a statistical tie.

A third poll, released this week by the CROP polling firm, found only 47 per cent of Quebecers favoured sovereignty, compared with the 54 per cent support a Léger Marketing poll reported on Wednesday.

3. I think the CPC's ties with the GOP is helping the Liberals

Seeing the NeoCon experiment south of the border in action is probably putting people off Harper.
