Now it seems the PI tried to give the info to the Libs first.
The Liberals turned down an opportunity to meet with a private investigator who said he had information about Helena Guergis, before he relayed that same information to the Conservative party.

Private investigator Derek Snowdy told CTV News that he first sought to talk to the Liberals, but he was turned down by Peter Donolo, the chief of staff for Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff.

Wasn't he quoted today as saying he was a committed Conservative, and was working for a Conservative law firm?

1. Turned down? Why?
That's messed up.

2. No idea. None of this makes any sense.
And the thing that annoys me is that these two dumbfucks are garnering all the attention, when extremely serious things are coming out.

We seem to be in some media version of 'bread and circuses'.

4. That may be
But today's EKOS poll seems to imply that this is the sort of the thing that changes the minds of voters. Thus, we will hear more about it.

6. Maybe they saw it as too much of a distraction from real business at hand...
... calling the government to task for war crimes, for instance. Or maybe they realized that taking the high road usually pays off in the end.

Of course, now that Harper himself has mentioned it himself and ramped things up, the opposition has no choice but to be all over this story and they can't be blamed by the Conservatives for cheapening political discourse.

3. Maybe he was shopping the info around
It's a good thing the Liberals (or NDP for that matter) didn't go along, or we would be hearing that it is all a setup by the opposition.

He also claimed that he tried informing the police (no details of who or when).

Curiouser and curiouser. This needs an investigation. The upcoming committee meetings may help, though we know from the Mulroney affair that committee investigations have limitations. We also know from the Mulroney affair, that the standard of evidence needed to "prove" allegations in these affairs can be extraordinarily high.

But we have to try.

5. I'll agree it was probably a good decision by the Libs.
It would have sounded completely suspect coming from them, and now Harper has the hot potato.
