Globe and Mail blog: Prorogation 'has hit a nerve'
Prorogation seems to be changing the way Canadians think about the federal Conservative government.

An EKOS poll released Thursday – the first since Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced last week that Parliament would be suspended until March – shows support for the Conservatives falling.

The poll of 1,744 Canadians, which was conducted on Jan. 4 and Jan. 5, suggests that just 33.1 per cent of voters would mark their ballots for the Conservatives if the election were held this week.

That’s a drop of 2.8 per cent since December. And it means the Tory lead over the Liberals, which was as high as 15 percentage points in October, is now about 5.

1. Harper was on CBC with Peter Mansbridge
And tried to make this prorogation sound totally normal. He said something along the line of being Prime Minister for about a year is as good as it gets.

Even my husband is disgusted with this. And we both agreed - if Harper wants to prorogue - then every single conservative MP that does not show up for work - should not recieve any salary for that time period. Why should Canadians pay their salary when they just up and quit for months at a time - and when the nation is at war - and when the nation is suffering a recession.

Oh - but the Olympics are coming--we simply can't work then. $%&^%$FGH%EEFG%%#

This will cost him. Voters are rightly disgusted by this.

3. Good! It certainly should "hit a nerve" with us....
I hope Canadians are waking up to see that Harper is Bush-like and, given Bush was despised by the vast majority of Canadians, will toss him and the rest of his cabal into the trash heap.

I'm a federal government employee in Ottawa...
...and the sentiment here is roughly "I don't always like my job, and sometimes it's difficult, and sometimes my clients don't like what I have to say to them and we have these big meetings where we hash things out, and it can get a little heated, etc. BUT I show up every day and compromise and fight fires and solve problems, not to mention I answer my own phone and do my own correspondance and filing, and never once have I ever pouted or gone home because nobody agreed with me, or because I wasn't popular, or because my idea was rejected."

So I have 2 questions: Can I swap jobs (and salaries) with the PM? And, can I have paid leave for the next two months to go to the Olympics?
