Mulroney-Schrieber is on The Fifth Estate tonight
I will be taping it, but I don't know how soon I will get a chance to watch it. Doyle (tv critic in the Globe) says it will be interesting.

1. The Globe and Canwest had an article today
Basically, Schrieber said he "gave" Mulroney $300,000 (three installments of $100,000 each, in cash at various hotels). Mulroney didn't do any work for him. The money ultimately came from the Swiss bank account "Britan", that Stevie Cameron wrote about, which was associated with the Airbus commissions. Mulroney declined an interview.

Mulroney claimed to have had no dealings with Schrieber in the investigation for discover during the defamation case he brought against the government. $300K seems like a significant dealing to me.

Schrieber said he went public because he was angry that Mulroney called him a liar.

CBC News

Some Conservative MPs are not ruling out reopening an investigation following a CBC Fifth Estate report that revealed Brian Mulroney received money from an account linked to the Airbus controversy after he left office.

Mulroney spokesman Luc Lavoie told Radio Canada the report is an exercise to smear the former prime minister's reputation and questioned CBC's motives.

Vic Toews, the new justice minister, was cautious about the report.

"I know absolutely nothing about that. I don't even know if those facts are correct," he said.

So there we go folks.

I thought that it only required a letter to the RCMP to start an investigation. Who said anything abount reopening an investigation with all the luggage?

Now everything has to pass the justice administrator smell test before his forces are to act!

It seems that they think that they are the rulers.

Plus a snide attack on the CBC.

5. It seems like perjury might be in order
Edited on Thu Feb-09-06 10:30 PM by daleo
Maybe I am wrong, but I thought witnesses were under oath during the discovery phase of a trial. If so, Mulroney's claim that he "had no dealings" with Schrieber after being PM seems like perjury, given that Schrieber now admits he gave Mulroney during that time. And not just a little money, that would be 5 or 6 years wages for most folks.

I am sure their will be spinning galore about how that isn't really a lie. I would like to see a judge make a determination.

300 grand for mailing a brochure - talk about culture of entitlement.
