Check in after you've voted in Wisconsin!
I voted in Madison - the wait was one and a half hours...and I knew I was surrounded by Democrats.

1. Hell, just walking down the street in Mad City you know you're surrounded by Democrats.
A far cry from my day in that town, when you walked down the street & knew you were surrounded by Maoists, Wobblies, Weathermen, Panthers and Yippies.

Oh, and my wife (another ex-Madisonian of that era) and I voted in rural Chippewa Falls. Do I need to say for whom?

33. Voted today in Stoughton
We waited about 20 minutes at the city hall. I could not believe how many people were there. Usually, I just walk right in. Today we had to check in with one office, fill out a form, then stand in line to vote one at a time in the Clerk's office. They were doing their best, but it was pretty imperfect given the small space and number of people (about a dozen at 10:30 with all their kids in tow).

Tomorrow is going to be nuts.

When I first got there in the afternoon they had just received the ballots, so I returned on my way home a couple of hours later and cast my ballot. Yesterday, the last day for early voting, there was a line with an hour wait to vote at City Hall.

I was # 396 at 9:00 am in a community with a total population of 8,500. We had 2 polling places for the 1st time ever. I got rather emotional and had to take a long moment to take it all in and look through teary eyes to check 438 times that I filled in the proper arrow.

This morning at the Enderis Park playfield/sporthouse thing.

I pulled up at 6:30 to get in line, and the line was already winding out the door and halfway across the park. By 7:00, it was across the park. It was FABULOUS! I was voter #90.

I got out at quarter to 8, and promptly got to Starbucks for my freebie. :D

45. Thats what they told me when I voted early at the clerks office.
All the early and absentee ballots are sorted by precinct and will be counted when the polls close tonight. Might take a bit longer- we had 32,000 vote early, but I believe they will count everything. We have 2 referenda on the ballot. They are expecting we could get 90% turnout in Dane County.

55. Just to free up time at the polls on election day.
Some of the polling places have a few hundred people at the door when they open at 7am because everyone wants to vote before work. And there will always be some people who want to register the day of the election.

A schoolteacher I know said her polling place was too crowded before work so she came back after work and she was number 1562- they have 2200 registered voters in her precinct.

61. It depends on where you live
In Milwaukee the absentee ballots (early voting included) were all counted at a central location. Where I vote the poll workers feed them through the machine whenever they have time during the day. Some places seem to leave them until after the polls close, but that seems to me to drag out the process unnecessarily.

Looks as if they may have redrawn the boundries. In 2004, one line was 1.5 hours long and the other had two people. This year, each table just had one or two people waiting. I'm unaware of anything else that was different. Go figure.

MadAsHell and the boys voted early but I waited until election day. Voted at 10am, only one in the town hall and was voter number 63.

I spent the rest of that morning putting out door hangers for Obama and watched a poll from 3pm to close. Went straight to the election bash in my county and just haven't had time to post.

Funny thing is, MadAsHell just noticed that turnout in our county was down from 2004. Obama only got about 500 more votes than Kerry (who lost here) but still won the county with a pretty good percentage. Apparently the pukes just didn't get to the polls.

in your neighboring county.....especially my city....77% turnout this time as opposed to 81% last time...but a BIG win (okay...57% ) for Obama in this mostly Repub city...

btw: good seeing you and madashell yesterday....enjoyed celebrating while the repub businessmen went to the back room to lick their wounds....

also fun....

I walked into my car repair place this morning and a customer and the staff were standing around "awfulizing" the election results...they are ALL hard core Limbaugh-ditto-heads....I told them I wanted to cancel my appointment because I've decided to trade the car in and the smart-ass customer says, "Just wait a month or two and the government will buy you a new one!" I replied, "God, I just love the smell of conservative desperation in the morning...it smells like VICTORY!"
