If you would like to become a state voter registrar, read this
You need to attend a class that explains all the procedures and be sworn in as a deputy voter registrar. Then you can register eligible voters who live anywhere in Wisconsin. The next training sessions are in Stevens Point on June 25 and in Madison on July 1, and they will probably have other sessions after that. You need to register on-line for the class. Here is the website:

1. They aren't exactly making the classes accessible to everyone
Classes are in Rhinelander, Stevens Point, Oneida and Madison.

And why the hell does it require 2 hours?

When I first moved to Indiana the county voter registration board member would explain the requirements in just a few minutes and then swear us in as deputy registrars.

They can't have the instructions given by the county clerks in each county or whoever has top election authority?

2. I'm sure there will be more--UPDATE
I took the class in Milwaukee, and there were a couple others scheduled that happened before I got to post about them. I'll try to keep checking the website and posting further dates.

UPDATE: Stevens Point class is cancelled. Classes are now scheduled for Milwaukee (June 25), Madison (July 1), La Crosse (July 10), and Appleton (July 24).
To register: http://elections.state.wi.us/subcategory.asp?linksubcatid=2376&linkcatid=2435&linkid=158&locid=47

The class covers everything that has to go on the fairly long form, and all the situations that one might encounter. This is, after all, a legal document that must be filled out properly. The last thing we want is for voters to think they are registered and then stand in line at the polls only to find out that they have to start over in another line. The reason they are trying to get people registered early is to avoid congestion on voting day. That's something that will favor our side. (I think it wasn't really all of two hours, but they probably want to estimate on the high side.)

I believe that one can still be a registrar through a particular county or jurisdiction, but then you aren't valid for the whole state. For example, if you sign up people at Summerfest, they could be from anywhere.

3. I live in Indiana and we don't have deputy registrars anymore.
People can be registered to vote at various government locations such as the BMV and public assistance agencies. In addition, forms are available online, at public libraries and other locations. And we can go out and register people. We don't have anything to do with signing the form or providing an oath as we use to.

There are requirements for first time voters to provide proof of who they are and including a copy of the drivers license if used as proof.

4. I took the class in Madison.
The forms and the laws are complicated enough that it takes 2 hours.

8. The form is simple and easy
The form has the following sections:
Name,minor personal data- like birthdate..
an old voting address....new voting address.
An ID area for Driver's License Number or SSI number.

Check boxes for voter to declare they are a citizen, and telling the truth.

Then a place for the register to validate...with a utility bill, phone bill ect. ( can't be over 90 days old)

Then they sign it, as does the registration deputy.

That's soooo complicated....NOT!

The 2 hours is training time, and 90% is usually stupid questions, debunking GOP myths about photo IDs.

6. You are from Indiana
The place where the elections wind up in the Supreme Court....maybe the extra moments, might not embarass the former stronghold of Mormonism and White Supremacy.

Our system works very well, far better than anything Indiana has, or is likely to try and scam on it's voters.

11. Is Indiana a new registered Wisconsin voter?
County Clerk do deputized registrars. They are called pollworkers, and register lots of people on election day.
The reason the state, made this law, was to prevent political parties from submitting bogus forms...which the GOP loved to do, and then claim fraud.

So Wisconsin removed that from the equation.
This Special Registration Deputy program, is designed to promote voter registration.

By the way Indiana, just try and show a pollworker your photo ID!
....and if you want to register as a Republican, you'll get laughed at.

There is not one registered Republican voter in Wisconsin....not one.

13. Thanks! It's very important
Having everyone registered and squared away before election day will make things run much smoother. The turnout promises to be even greater than in 2004 and that was huge.
