any interest in an impromptu VA DU gathering in June?

I'm a Richmond native, and will be going back the first 2 weeks of June, would love to meet some DUers who still dwell there, deep in enemy territory :)

6. Sorry, I live in Northern VA

I have a baby, and would prefer not to travel that far. I'll go as far south as Madison to the east or Woodstock to the west, though, if someone wants to host a northern or central meeting.

to have a startup DU group meeting

Over 2500 democrats are scheduled to be there.

Maybe we could have a small recruiting drive to get folks signed up to DU

Actually seems to be quite a few here. At least in the circles I run with and as long as you stay out of SW county area. A couple times a week on my home from work I see a car in the next lane at the stop light at 221/419 with the license plate RGHTWINGER I'm sure he loves my Bush is a Punk Ass Chump sticker.

Richmond is extremely hostile territory...it'd be great to meet someone (anyone) who isn't a rabid republican down here. I've been here about a year now and have yet to find someone who shares my views (I have to admit being closeted 'cause of the caustically conservative atmosphere). It's depressing, really.

You know...I've been seeing tons of Kerry/Edwards stickers around my neighborhood (the West End of Richmond). I still see far more Bush stickers, but damn, there are a heck of a lot more people showing their liberal colors than I ever would have imagined in this Republican stronghold. I get the feeling Kerry is going to win...

Lurked for a long time, then decided to put in some bucks and jump in. I lived in the Fan for 25 yrs, just recently moved to Henrico.

Out here on the West End, if you aren't Republican, you're some sort of anomaly and cast aside. I've had a bunch of conversations with friends and co-workers who say that I'm basically insane for being a democrat (especially in this area). It can become quite depressing....
