3 Cheers for John Warner!
you may being going  over the title but read below for an explanation. Ive said it once and Ill say it again...If Virginia has to have a Republican senator, Im glad we have a guy like John Warner. This is a snip from the dKos main page.

--snip--

House GOP attack on MoveOn.org fails--for now.

Liberal groups like Moveon.org outraised similar GOP groups in the last election. Intimidated by Moveon.org's success, the right has sought to weaken its influence by (1) painting it as a fringe, "far-left" group, and (2) passing legislation which would slash the group's finances. Specifically, the House GOP sought to limit individual contributions to such groups.

...

Enter Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman John Warner (R-VA), who refused to sign off on the defense bill unless the campaign finance provision was removed.

1. Warner is a good guy.
I don't always agree with him, but he's got some integrity.

AND he knows where Norfolk is.

2. He Needs to Remember More Than Norfolk
Judge Alito should be voted down if not at least filisbustered. As one of the "14" Warner should come forward.

4. If not for Warner, Oliver North would have beat Robb and now be a Senator
Polls showed that Warner's "candidate" Marshall Coleman's support came almost exclusively from Republicans.

Coleman's percentage of the total vote more than outnumbered the slim margin that Robb had over North after all votes were counted. So, without Coleman's involvement you would have seen North defeat Robb.

5. Yeah, well, I wrote to him to protest against openingANWR
to oil drilling, and got back a lecture about how important it is for America to achieve energy independence--well DUH, you old git. That's why I suggested we put some of this vaunted American know-how and ingenuity to exploiting RENEWABLE sources.
Bah.

6. He is an old man.
We need young Dems who know how to think outside the box and get things done. We can't keep beating a dead horse. We must use new technology for energy. Just think about all the money wasted in Iraq that could have gone for innovative breakthroughs. Makes you want to puke.

8. I got a letter from Allen once. It essentially said he didn't care for
my views and would proceed anyway.

He's never responded to mine and I do write as a "concerned constituent" rather than a democrat. Wonder if he'll hit me up for a donation...heh.

Edit to add that I always get very polite replies from John Warner.
