Update on AAR-Dallas
My source is still investigating and researching the best potential station. Will hopefully have something by Monday--sorry for the delay.
I am in the final editing of the letter (had to pitch proposals yesterday and was unable to work on this, I apologize).
This letter, when complete, will be posted here for final approval.
I should be finished with it today.
It will be bound with correlating data behind it and sent to the targeted station in a very professional proposal. I will use my company colors since I have an abundance of it :), which is indigo blue cover and buff linen paper. It will look very very nice--I assure you.
The one thing that I would like to add--if someone can help me...is a petition-type document with as many names as you can get.
It can be started on the internet, but it needs to be today--I am just unfamiliar with how to start these things, sorry. So if we can have a volunteer for that.
I plan on having things ready to go no later then Tuesday so we really need to expedite this.
Many many thanks.
(I will also make available what we sent for anyone else to utilize to attempt to lure an AAR station to their area).
Thanks again.

1. WOW. You rock infinitely.
I can work on the petition. Should we confine it to signers living in the DFW metroplex area?

2. We can start there
Wonder if we could run a dual type petition? One of DFW area and one of interested parties on the same page? It would be nice to be able to point out support and maybe we would also get alot of hits from other areas which may pursuade (probably clear channel) to go ahead and start in other areas. Would be nice to serve the greater good while serving our own purposes as well.
It is in all of our best interests to get as many AAR stations out there as possible (I'm working on one for Texarkana but not holding my breath, lol).
Thanks so much for starting this.
YOU ROCK TOO!

3. Ok, here's the sample text I've got, what do you think?

www.petitiononline.com looks really easy to use; we'd have to do another one with a different URL to capture non North-Texas residents. We can write up a sample email to get out into the network of local Dems and include both URLs. This is the version restricted to N. Texas residents.

Bring Liberal Talk Radio to North Texas

To: North Texas Radio Station Owners

We respectfully request that you bring liberal talk radio to the North Texas radio airwaves.

There are, at present, four conservative talk radio stations in this market. There are no liberal talk radio stations, despite the fact that over 350,000 people in Dallas county, and almost three-quarters of a million people in a 12 county area, voted Democratic or Libertarian in the last presidential election. In the interests of balance and fairness, the market deserves and would support a liberal talk radio format.

We, the undersigned, who are radio listeners and residents of the North Texas area, request that you bring Air America, and / or some of the other liberal talk radio programs such as Stephanie Miller or Ed Schultz, to this market. Thank you.

thoughts?

I tried to make it kind of generic and mention other, non-AAR liberal talk radio shows because I wanted to give them the idea that they have a choice. but I can take that out if you don't think it's appropriate.

What do you think? Also I think we might want to give it a little longer than Tuesday to let it circulate and get more sigs? Maybe through Friday?

Dear Friends:

As you know, North Texas is becoming more and more liberal, yet we still do not have a liberal talk radio station available. An informal group of online activists has targeted a commercial radio station (should we put down which one?) and is planning to submit a proposal to them explaining exactly why bringing liberal talk to North Texas would be both fair *and* would make good business sense.

You can see the proposal letter online here: (link TBD)

The proposal packet, with letter and supporting statistics, will go to the station on Wednesday, February 16. All we are asking is that you sign the petition which will go in the packet, and forward this email.

PLEASE SIGN ONLY ONE PETITION:

North Texas residents sign this one:
http://www.petitiononline.com/rad1357/petition.html

Supporters living outside North Texas please sign this one:
http://www.petitiononline.com/rad2468/petition.html

Thank you!

6. Very very good
Friday is fine--or we can designate a certain number of sigs? 100,000 at least? That would be my suggestion.
I wouldn't put a radio station in it because it is quite possible we may play devils advocate with a couple of the companies to get a better frequency.
If we are going to wait--need to change where it says Wed, Feb 16--and put "when reach "x" signatures, etc or along those lines.
This is awesome!Great work.

8. ok, here's the revision
Do you really think we can get 100,000 sigs? Maybe between the two petitions, but I think we're better off setting a date deadline for it.

7. You guys are awesome!
I already signed; I'm # 2!

Would it be appropriate for me to sign for other people that I know would be interested, but don't spend any time on line? Like, my husband, my dad, and my brother? The only problem I can foresee is that I might have to use my e-mail address again...Plus, we all live in unincorporated Tarrant County with a Crowley zip code, which is kind of unusual. I listed my city as "Uninc Tarrant County (Crowley)".

Oh, and to forward the e-mail to other people, do I just copy and paste your post to forward?

Thanks!

9. Great!
I think it's OK to sign for them if you know they'd like it, but the software may not accept multiple signatures at the same email address. Try it and see!

Oh, and the only thing that's not ready to go with the email is the link to the cover letter -- when Horse gets it done I'll put it in -- I guess you could take that one line out and go ahead and send it if you think people don't care about reading the letter. I put the line in because I thought it would give us a little more legitimacy -- I don't sign a lot of these 'indie' petitions myself because I don't think it'll get much done.

Clear Channel adopts liberal programming on growing number of stations
February 17, 2005, 2:49 PM

DETROIT (AP) -- The day before President Bush's inauguration, listeners tuning in to the Detroit sports station WXDX-AM were suddenly greeted by the sound of braying donkeys. By the time Bush was taking the oath of office, the radio station had new call letters and a full schedule of liberal talk shows.

WXDX-AM -- now known as WDTW-AM -- is one of 22 stations owned by Clear Channel Communications Inc. that have switched to a liberal talk format in the last year. This month, KTLK-AM in Los Angeles became the latest Clear Channel station to adopt the format.

18. Another article to think about including:
http://msnbc.msn.com/id/6959815/site/newsweek/

By Jonathan Darman
NewsweekFeb. 21 issue - Ed Schultz comes from Bush country and looks like it. At 6 feet 2 and 250 pounds, his idea of the good life is eating wings, fishing for walleye and watching football on TV. He passionately defends his right to own a gun, eat a steak and drive a Suburban. He loves his nation, his wife and his son, who plays golf for Texas Christian. He's the kind of guy the president might grab in a rope line, give a fake jab to the gut and call by his nickname, "Big Eddie," just like a friend.

But Schultz doesn't want to be George W. Bush's buddy. For three hours every day he rails against Bush on his nationally syndicated radio show from Fargo, N.D., calling the administration "government by the rich, for the rich" and Bush's policies an "axis of bankruptcy." The White House is listening. When Bush came to Fargo this month, Schultz's producer was barred from attending the event (the White House blamed local officials). "Is this what the president thinks of us folks in the heartland?" Schultz asked his listeners. "He's afraid!"
