Moving to Houston and CANNOT find a place to live
We are moving from Irving to Houston on July 1st for my husband's job at UT Houston. We need to find a small apartment/house to rent for a few months and are having a terrible time. We have 3 cats (most places only allow 2). We need a short-term lease (3 months would be perfect) and don't really want to pay mega $$$ for a rental because we still have our Irving mortgage. Can anyone recommend any places near Medical Center? Thanks a lot!

1. Sometimes students sublet their places during the summer...
Med Center is fairly close to Rice and U of H.

2. Try this
Besides the cats, most landlords want longer lease terms than three months, so you have some challenges. I went to the Houston Press and set those parameters (med center, cats OK) and got these listings:

http://houstonpress.backpage.com/ApartmentsForRent/?keyword=medical%20center&petsAccepted=Cats%20Ok

You can further refine that if you need to. We have lived in the Med Center/West U area from '93 until last February (when we got a house in Meyerland). I can be of greater assistance in telling you where NOT to live but will help in any way I am able. If y'all are attending the TDP convention this weekend then let's visit. If not then send me a PM.

3. I have a house available for rent, but it's in Spring Branch.
It's been vacant since June 1st.

4. Try HAR site - Houston Assoc of Realtors
http://search.har.com/engine/dispSearchClass7.cfm

You can search the section under "residential leases"

Welcome to Houston!

5. That's high dollar real estate near the Medical Center
www.har.com is a good suggestion.

also check out www.ridemetro.org for Houston Metro routes. There's a train connecting to the medical center - you might say $$$ by moving a bit farther out and using transportation system to commute.

Welcome to H-Town, the H stands for HOT BTW. Bring loose, comfortable clothes - you'll need 'em.

6. Thanks guys!
We found an apartment in the Montrose/River Oaks area that will take 3 cats and let us do a short-term lease. Houston, we no longer have a problem!
