Re: "White echoes Hutchison with criticism of Perry -- Democrat cites dropouts, toll roads; governor's camp says strategy will fail again," Thursday news story.

It should be no surprise that gubernatorial candidate Bill White uses the unpopular Trans Texas Corridor project to criticize Gov. Rick Perry. The private toll road plan ran into fierce public opposition. However, Perry's Texas Department of Transportation continues to aggressively pursue private toll roads.

2. Thank God out here in the empty quarter west of 35, no one's interested
in toll roads.

That said, those who advocate them should be hung from a sour apple tree....

4. Hang me, then.
I like toll roads for the most part. They're one of the few ways we can really put a price tag on how much people drive, especially in higher-density urban areas where pollution is a problem.

Of course they're not needed out in West Texas, but there's nothing wrong with them in Dallas, Houston, Austin or San Antonio.

5. Dedicated fuel taxes do the same without the inconvenience, or in the
case of Goodhair, the sale of public assets to private corporations for pennies on the dollar.

7. I wouldn't have such a problem with them,
if the toll booths went away once they were paid off. There is a toll road that makes it very convenient to get from my house to my work, but it costs me $2/day to use. I can't afford to pay $100 month to use this toll road, so I go the sidestreets. It seems that only the rich benefit from toll roads.

8. The rich use them
And some rich pay no taxes. The middle and lower class pay the taxes and can't use them. State can't afford to build them because of low tax rev. So they bond them out to the future generation to pay. Call it a balance budget!!! Lease to a Spain and they get the profit. They call this capitalism.
