those two propositions having to do with the city financing and owning a convention center hotel.

I keep going back and forth on it. I'm leaning toward allowing the city to do that (which is a "NO" vote, ironically....as usual for Dallas), but I'm not sure.

1. PLEASE..
.... vote YES on both propositions. We've had enough of the "privitaze profits, socialize risk" paradigm of government.

Building a hotel like that would be dodgy in the best of times, in this economic climate is it insanity. And as the ads say, if there were "guaranteed" profits to be made, private investors would be lining up to fund this thing.

Cities around the country have been getting punked by the wheeler-dealers who tell us that we'll make money if we just build that convention center, or that stadium or that hotel. It ALMOST NEVER HAPPENS.

This is about real estate developers hitting hard times and wanting a taxpayer bailout. They are the only ones who will make money off of this.

VOTE YES.

2. I see. But...won't it create some several hundred jobs? (I don't believe
(I don't believe the reports that say thousands of jobs will be created.) But this reminds me, sort of, of a stimulus bill. You have to pay out money in order to spur the economy.

In any case, I'm on the fence, so I'd just as soon vote for not funding that project, since my gut tells me my property taxes will go up to pay off those bonds when they come due.

Still....I think it's going to pass, so I doubt my vote makes much difference. Every group I've heard of is supporting the "NO" to those propositions...incl. minority groups and south Dallas groups.

But isn't it nice to know that there are some of us who make a point of voting in these low turnout voting days? That makes our vote worth more! I try to vote every time there's an opportunity to do so.

3. I forgot to say thanks for your response! I've had a lot of trouble getting opinions on this...
issue. I think almost everyone else is as confused as I am about it, or doesn't care.
