AAS 10/08/09Cornyn memo says he's ahead but political climate volatile
Noriega campaign says it doesn't need a poll to believe Cornyn in trouble.Republican U.S. Sen. John Cornyn's campaign told supporters Tuesday that while he's well ahead of little-known Democrat Rick Noriega according to an internal poll, the campaign is operating in a volatile political atmosphere.
In a memo to top financial supporters, Cornyn campaign manager Rob Jesmer wrote: "We are in good shape, but I don't want to give the false impression we don't have a lot of work to do. Although Noriega is a weak, underfunded candidate that is way to the left of the Texas electorate ... we are operating in an extremely volatile and fluid political climate."
Jesmer's memo, predicting Noriega will start airing TV ads on Thursday, continues: "Simply put, we will likely have to navigate some bumpy days as the election approaches."
Jesmer confirmed he sent the memo, which the American-Statesman obtained from another source. He declined further comment.
Hey Texas come on - let's make our climate more volatile for corndog. I say we shake him out of office!
