3. That reminds me of a funny story
Last year, at Texas-OU, I was unable to get tickets at the last minute through my lobbyist cousin (surprise, surprise, he never called!), so my parents and I went into the Old Mill Inn to watch it on their TVs (which was AWESOME!). Up front was this old guy who kept drinking whiskey after whiskey, and by half-time, he was toasted. There was also a woman who seemed to have missed the Harley convention, who kept yelling something about "Boomer Sooner" and "Texas Sucks!". She shut up about the time the old guy got going... anyway, this old guy started making fun of her when it became obvious that OU was going to lose. He started saying things like, "Yeah... uh... go Rice Owls! Go Horned Toads!". Everyone was laughing, it was a riot. And then he got hung up on what became his catchphrase, and an ongoing private joke between me and my dad: he started yelling, randomly, "Go Bears! Arrrrrgggh!" and making the Baylor Bears "paw" sign with his free hand.

HILARIOUS.

Arrrrrrgh!!!

4. When I started at BU
In 1968 two of the first things I learned were:

1. The motto of the Baylor Football Team is "Wait until next year!"

2. Only Aggies and Tea-sips invest their self esteem in the performance of a couple of dozen athletes who are generally dumber than a bag of rocks. Now we can add Sooners to that list.

Those two lessons have prepared me for the real world better than many of the other things I learned at my Alma Mater.

9. Sooner Nation is also waiting for that first kickoff......
As an old fart, I am now painfully aware that football doesn't or shouldn't define a university, but, of course, that's heresy in Norman and throughout Sooner Nation. I'm so proud of the University of Oklahoma, and I see OU athletics -- particularly football -- as a guilty pleasure. It looks like the NFL farm team that represents OU is likely to have a good season. We're definitely looking forward to the big game in Dallas!

5. Wake me when it's over.....
I really cannot stand college football and UT inparticular. I feel the urge to leave Austin every Sept.
But y'all have fun!

11. Exactly, but since i avoid crossing the river on weekends
it hardly matters.... Football season is good for grocery shopping though, if you wait until after kickoff! :toast:

12. Every now and then I get the urge to head south on a Saturday...
...and end up in a big traffic jam.

I've learned to check the schedule. Of course, it's a great time to go grocery shopping. :D

13. Almost time to put out the Longhorn flag!
Hook 'em, Horns! I'm a fan whether they win or lose -- and I've had plenty of practice in both situations. :)
