3. I think he has a good shot at it-a lot of Republicans do not like Arlene
and aren't going to vote for her this time. She is extremely right wing and even to moderate Republicans, has gone too far in cutting some vital programs. I intend to see if I can get a head-to-head fact sheet and then put something in my local paper.

4. Arlene Wohlgemuth is downright scary!
She is WAY out there. She HATES social services. She also has a nasty habit of talking down to people, especially those that disagree with her. She is vile and nasty. I'm glad she's leaving the legislature; hopefully, Chet will return her to private life.

5. More links on Arlene Wohlgemuth: Enemy of Children
OK this one is pro-Edwards blog entry but it is a good short read. Quotes from a May '04 Roll Call article.

Roll Call Says TX-17 "Leans Democrat"

This one is about the kind of legislation Arlene is capable of. Just kill everything on the table. "Memorial Day Massacre of 1997"

Lady Macbeth
Arlene Wohlgemuth

Here is the meat. Arlene wants to represent Texas in Congress so that she can leave more children behind.

6. Thanks for the links, Sonia!
Arlene likes to take responsibility for the cuts in the CHIPs program. I suspect that she thinks that sick children are something to be proud of. Heckfire, even Carole Keeton Rylander Strayhorn Cougar Mellencamp called the cuts "unconscionable."

Hasn't Arlene made the Texas Monthly Ten Worst Hall of Fame? I agree with you, GOPisEvil, she is vile.

7. Arlene is the perennial Ten Worst Legislators Hall of Fame candidate
I think by now she has earned her permanent life-time achievement there. But you know, some people think she represents them quite well, and I imagine that she will get quite a few right wing nuts vote for her.

And you think Arlene is bad, well her party also produced this evil TX repuke woman legislator, Texas State Rep. Debbie Riddle, R-Houston said this in May, 2003.
"Where did this idea come from, that everybody deserves free education, free medical care, free whatever? It comes from Moscow, from Russia. It comes straight out of the pit of hell," Riddle was quoted as saying in the El Paso Times. "And it’s cleverly disguised as having a tender heart. It’s not a tender heart. It’s ripping the heart out of this country."

Um yeah, that's would I would consider a good ideas for "promoting the general welfare" and I do think there is something about guaranteeing that in that darn TX state constitution as well.

Constitution of the State of Texas
ARTICLE VII.
Education--The Public Free Schools.
SECTION 1. A general diffusion of knowledge being essential to the preservation of the liberties and rights of the people, it shall be the duty of the Legislature of the State to establish and make suitable provision for the support and maintenance of an efficient system of public free schools.
