A fundraiser for BAND's candidate: Sherrie Matula
Fundraiser for Sherrie Matula for State Representative District 129

About a year ago Sherrie Matula a board member of Bay Area New Democrats, debated our current State Representative John Davis on education and insurance issues. She was absolutely fantastic and ran circles around him. Over the next few months the Board Members of BAND encouraged her to consider running for State Rep, and SHE IS!

You Are Invited!
To Meet and Greet Sherrie Matula
Candidate for State Representative District 129
(representing Clear Lake and the surrounding area.)

If you would consider sponsoring the event:
levels are $50 (Student), $100(Parent), $250(Teacher), and $500(Pricipal).

Mark your calendars:
Thursday, April 20, 2006 5:30PM-7:30PM
BJ’s Restaurant 515 Bay Area Blvd 77598

$10 Suggested donation at the door

RSVP to: Louisa Hodges <[email protected]>

Sherrie is retiring from teaching in May, has been active in education policies at the local and state level with the Texas State Teachers Association (TSTA), and the National Education Association (NEA). She is a board member of BAND and a former board member of the Clear Creek Independent School District. She has fought for public education for her entire adult life and is a firm supporter of public education.

We are VERY proud of Sherrie and believe she could walk into our capitol and be effective immediately!

1. Glad to see a good Czech girl doing good!
with her roots in South Texas, even though she's in Clear Lake.

2. Czech. good catch!
I thought it was Italian, but Sherrie corrected me last week!

Hey, this lady is GOOD! She has a great grasp of the education issue and environment and insurance issues also! Well spoken. Well connected with the education community.

This will be a very very tough fight, but our current Rep has not been challenged in 8 years. He has passed only a handful of bills, including renaming NASA Rd 1 to NASA Parkway and giving himself a $6000/year raise in his pension.

So we are gunning for him.

6. She's part of the large Polish & Czech community

that has its roots southeast and east of San Antonio. I know most if not all the Polish names that originate from here. I also know many of the Czech names.

Glad to hear she's a great candidate.

Isn't that Galveston County? I know Clear Creek is the boundary.

7. She sounds absolutely terrific!
I'm very intrigued with her, but then again I am ALL about talented educators. :)

To get someone this qualified into the House would make my this educator very happy, indeed. I almost think she could get support from around the state if you could get the news of her candidacy out a little further. There are a lot of us interested in seeing the tide change in the TX legislature in favor of some people who have some sense when it comes to education issues.

Does she have a website?
