2. Me!
:hi: from lil ol' Webb County, where we UNANIMOUSLY passed a resolution in support of HB 2239 & S 1980 (?? if the numbers are right; it's the "we hate electronic machines & demand paper ballots" resolution")!

BTW, folks here are pissed off at how the problems in Webb County were portrayed in the media vs. how they were portrayed when they occurred in other counties (like Tarrant). Problems in Webb County? Oh, it MUST be due to corruption & stupid people. Same, if not worse, problems in the other counties? Oh, it was just the machines. :grr:

5. Great news Wolverine!
Still coming to Austin at the beginning of April?

Sweetie, the media blasted many counties for these machines. Did you see my DU post on media coverage of the e-voting failures?

Texas counties and related voting problems during 2006 primary

Jefferson beat Webb on media coverage.

13. Yes, I'll still be there
And yes, I saw your post. However, the difference is I don't recall seeing anything in the SA paper, local rag, other media, or on DU blasting the people of Jefferson County for being stupid and/or corrupt. I take umbrage that it is just automatically assumed Webb County is corrupt and/or stupid just because a certain race didn't turn out the way most of us had hoped. The response to what happened in other counties was automatically "It's the machines! We told you so" whereas in Webb County, the reaction was "Yeah, right it was the machines!"

9. Great thought, but I have to got the Fall Out Boys concert
at Reliant tonight? I bought tickets for my daughter and Lisa and me several months ago, not knowing it was the day of the SD conventions AND the DVO whistle stop at Drexler's. If it gets out early enough, we will stop for drinks on the way home for sure, but we have to be out of here by 9am tomorrow because I'm flying to NY in the morning to help my mom with my dad who's having surgery tomorrow.

11. We did. Lisa and already have tickets in the $30 section
we bought a package deal which assigns a seating area, but not specific seats, so you could buy a ticket and meet us there. Al Gore tickets go on sale at the Molly Ivins event. We can all buy them together.

12. Couldn't have been me............
unless you count my "designer" Gloria Vanderbilt jeans and white t-shirt with matching white Reaboks. But I did have a leather bound legal pad, where tried to compose a grocery list, during some of the painfully dull amendment discussions.

LOL, I should have turned around to see her face, when Hank Gilbert said we were going to turn Texas Blue and "run the damn whores out of Austin".

I don't remember everyone who was selected as a delegate---but at the very least you are an at-large alternate and we expected that practically all the alternates who actually came to State would end up elevated to full delegate. So... plan on going to Fort Worth.

28. You fought the good fight
I heard about your convention. Turn into something positive. I heard your candidate for delegation chair only lost by three votes. Pretty good for a newcomer running against someone who has been running the convention for umpteen billion years.

At least you didn't have a consultant pop up early in the morning and set a divisive tone for the rest of the day by telling just a few key players that a resolution that didn't exist was going to be pushed through the committee. I've heard that even SD15 had a more amiable convention than ours. The positive outcome of the consultant's spin is that the key players are beginning to realize that the consultant is full of crap.

34. The chair did a fantastic job
The convention ran smoothly until the report of the resolutions committee. Lots of uneccesary posturing and attempts to run over the chair - his first convention - but thank goodness the chair knows his stuff. He made a couple of mistakes and admitted it but sheez, he was getting hammered from both sides. One person that I consider a friend and who knows Robert's Rules of Order very well took advantage of their time at the microphone and created a little unecessary drama over a section of the report of the resolutions committee and later a minority report. Another person who has been around forever and a day was just plain dramatic about the convention and the Party in general thanks to the consultant putting the bug in enough folks' ears. The icing on the cake was when someone who calls themself the chair's mentor suggested (at the microphone) that the chair didn't know what he was doing and should appoint a couple of people to be parliamentarians. The chair of the resolutions committee then swiftly pointed out that he and the chair of the convention are both certified parliamentarians.

I'd give the convention an A- though and the minus goes to the posturing delegates who have been around long enough to know better. The chair did a fantastic job and it is my understanding that we adjourned earlier than has ever been done in the past.
