Nader sues for spot on Texas' ballot
http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/front/2561325

AUSTIN -- Independent presidential candidate Ralph Nader sued Texas' top election official today to try to get onto the state's ballot, claiming that a petition signature requirement is unconstitutional.

His lawsuit was filed in federal court in Austin only a couple of minutes before the court clerk's office closed for the day.

Nader's campaign submitted an application with the Texas Secretary of State's Office for a place on the general election ballot but said it wouldn't turn in the more than 50,000 voter signatures it had collected.

The campaign had to collect at least 64,076 signatures by 5 p.m. Monday from registered voters who did not vote in the Democratic or Republican primaries. That equals 1 percent of all votes cast for president in the last election in Texas.

1. (Shakes Head) Nader really needs sedation
Dude, give it up already. All you're doing is making yourself into a bigger fool than you already are.

2. Nader, please spend all of your money trying to get on Texas's ballot.
But please stay away from the following states: Nevada, Washington, Oregon, Louisiana, Florida, West Virgina, North Carolina, Illinois, Ohio, new Hampshire, Missouri and Iowa. :)

3. wtf is his problem, anyway?
I never thought much about the signature requirement--maybe he is saying every Tom Dick & Hairy, every crackpot who wants his/her name on the ballot should have it without the demonstrated support of voters?

whatever, he needs to go away.

4. If he can't get 1% of the available electorate to sign his petition,
why prolong the charade? What a joke.

5. I found this amusing
The article from the Houston Chronicle goes on to state:
__________
The Nader campaign complained last week that its volunteers have been banned from some street festivals and public university campuses in Texas, making it difficult to gather signatures.

"The closing of public spaces is stifling the voices of political and civic campaigners who cannot afford the expense of the mass media but who can go to the public directly with their minds, hearts and feet," a statement from the Nader campaign said.
___________

Some good Democrats have been busy slowing Nader down. Good job.

6. Maybe he is having trouble gathering signatures because
nobody wants him to run!

I guess his ego won't consider that little idea.

8. What a WHINER! At least in 2000 there was SOME reason to
vote for him (although I voted for Gore, my brother voted for Nader to help himi get the Green Party going). There is NO reason for him to run, except his own overblown ego. He's not on ANY ballot yet, is he!

9. One of my green friend couples was here a while back and we were
talking politics. (Surprise, surprise!) The husband mentioned that Nader was running and he might vote for him again. He thinks Kerry is too "establishment". His wife gave him a swift glance and said "No, we are not." I didn't have to ask. There is too much ugliness taking place now for them to even begin to think of enabling bush by voting for Nader. Plus he always defers to her brains. They are terrific people.
