Rummy and Dolly

Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld joins country music legend Dolly Parton on stage at the Grand Ole Opry during a live broadcast in Nashville, Tenn., on April 23, 2005. Rumsfeld visited Nashville to thank Parton, the Grand Ole Opry, and the American people for their support of U.S. troops. DoD photo by Tech. Sgt. Cherie A. Thurlby, U.S. Air Force. (Released)

2. Dolly is there for the troops -- the human beings who --
-- find themselves in a hellhole in Iraq.

Rummy's there for a public relations stunt, one of his specialties.

I'd sure rather hear Dolly sing than Donald lie.

They're both experts in their respective fields -- singing (Dolly) and lying (Rumsfeld).

3. I was always a Dolly fan... but now? F*** her. Not another dime.
What a disappointment. That photo makes me sick.

You don't understand. I loved Dolly. But there is no way I could ever stand on a stage with that murder. I thought she was a Dem, but even so, that doens't matter. I am so pissed.

Ok, I'm really pissed. But mostly, disappointed.

5. Dolly is gracious Southern lady-she had to Recognize Rummy who
showed up for this event. The event was to honor the troops--NOT Rummy.

11. Exactly
That's like if Al Franken was there doing comedy and Rummy showed up.

8. Hi, kerrytravelers. You don't have to worry about Dolly.
She's done her own thinking since forever and some little Napolean pissant like Rumsfield isn't going to change that any.

She's on stage and welcomes all comers. After the show, my guess is Rummy had better not cross her on policy. She's there to honor the men and women in uniform, and not to endorse Rumsfeld's murderous lies.

Go with rodeodance and straightshooter on this one. And hang in there with Dolly Parton. She's a good soul.

6. Please don't be disappointed in Dolly.

I seem to recall an article not too long ago about Dolly really letting the right-wingers have it over freedom of speech and love of country. She sounded like a moderate liberal.

Dolly truly is a gracious person, but she is a professional and she is a Southerner, which means gracious hospitality to your guest (or host) and share your negative opinions with friends and family only. She's old-fashioned in that way.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong about Dolly. I admire her, and always have. (Don't like her music much, though.)

12. Yep
Something with schools and learning and a new plan they're doing with giving kids books. If you visit Bredesen's site (he's the best!) you can see him honoring her for her work she's done for public service.
