Twp. Supervisor promotes strip clubs as good for "exercise and therapy"
Edited on Wed Aug-12-09 12:37 PM by JPZenger
Here is something you don't see everyday. Supervisors in Middle Smithfield Township in Monroe County (north of Stroudsburg) are proposing to loosen their zoning regulations on locations of strip clubs. The one supervisor tried to justify the move by saying that poll dancing is good excercise and therapy. By sheer coincidence, he is trying to sell property that he owns for a strip club.

Excerpt:

"Pole dancing is an exercise. It's a therapy."

Middle Smithfield Supervisor Bob Spano briefly tried to sell the benefits of strip clubs with that argument at Thursday's board of supervisors meeting.

The public didn't buy it.

In July, it was revealed that Spano had placed a real estate advertisement in Extreme, a regional adult magazine. The ad pictured Werry's Pub on Route 209 and described the property as NEWLY ZONED for a gentleman's club. Werry's asking price? $2.5 million. The ad was wrong about the zoning. Werry's is located in a commercial zone, where adult entertainment is prohibited.

"I have a gentleman interested in purchasing Werry's. He's the one who wants to put it strip club) in, not me," Spano said."
