Corzine Praises Hoeffel in Memo to Donors

Upgrades Race to Top-Tier of Dem Takeover Opportunities

Washington, DC – Yesterday in a memo to top DSCC donors, U.S. Senator Jon Corzine (D-NJ), Chairman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC), hailed the developments in the U.S. Senate race in Pennsylvania. Corzine was motivated to upgrade the Pennsylvania Senate race to the top-tier of Democratic takeover opportunities because of Congressman Joe Hoeffel’s continuing momentum driven by both political endorsements and fundraising. Most recently, former President Bill Clinton and former Vice President Al Gore announced they will host separate fundraisers for Hoeffel in late August and September respectively.

1. Thanks for keeping us updated on this, Kire.
And we can get rid of Santorum next. Chris Heinz would be a good choice, don't you think?

Santorum is an absolute embarrassment to this state.

3. What's Hoeffl polling at now?
It's a real shame that I really never hear anything about him in PA.
Not sure if many people know who he is. I hope we can knock of Specter!!!

4. all-county tour
He's doing it now. Check the website. I think he's due in Cumberland County Monday, and I'll know where for sure this afternoon.

5. Specter leading 51-26
Poll shows Specter maintaining big lead

Thursday, August 19, 2004
BY PETER L. DeCOURSEY
Of The Patriot-News

U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter leads his Democratic challenger by a ratio of almost 2-to-1, according to the Keystone Poll from Franklin & Marshall College.

Specter's lead of 51 percent to 26 percent for Rep. Joe Hoeffel of Montgomery County, with 4 percent for conservative third-party candidate Jim Clymer, comes primarily from Specter's "better name recognition in the commonwealth," said G. Terry Madonna, director of the poll.

Of voters polled, almost nine in 10 -- 89 percent -- recognize Specter, a 24-year-incumbent, while Hoeffel is known to only 27 percent.

The survey, sponsored by The Patriot-News, WGAL-TV and other media organizations, interviewed 660 registered Pennsylvania voters from Aug. 2 to 15.

6. Pretty bad, but Hoeffl has a lot of room to improve if he
just can get his name recog. up!
Hopefully local news will begin covering him more during October. Specter really needs to leave DC.
