I heard Steve Novick on The Mike Malloy Show last night
on Nova M radio. I liked what he had to say. He's running for US Senate. Made me wish I was living in Oregon. This is his website: http://www.novickforsenate.org/

1. Merkley is the progressive. Check out Novicks Obama comments at http://www.blueoregon.com/
A new Novick attack surfaced this week. This time Novick was not attacking Merkley, but Barack Obama. Novick refers to Obama as a "captive-of-special interest fraud who doesn't really care about global warming and doesn't deserve to be hailed as some great Kenya-Kansas hope" (2006). He also said Obama is "a complete sell-out to the military-industrial complex" (2006); "sorely lacking in fiscal responsibility" (2006); and "gives me nothing to like very much and one thing to intensely dislike" (2006).

In other writings Novick attacks Hillary Clinton, referring to Senator Clinton as a "coward" (2006) and a "traitress" (2006). He also said she was "warmongering" (2006); "distasteful" (2006); and "hasn't said a single inspiring thing on any subject since, oh, 1994" (2006).

3. Novick was for Edwards first
And like a lot of Edwards supporters, it looks like he attacked Obama in an effort to help his preferred candidate. I don't put a lot of stock in that, although I prefer candidates who say things out of integrity rather than political expediency.

I think they're both progressive. I still don't know which one to support. Kitz endorsed Novick, so I was leaning that way. Now, I don't know again.

4. I was also an Edwards supporter but his statements about Obama made me mad. I don't think I can
support Novick now. Either he meant what he said or it was political expediency. Either way, I can't endorse him now.

5. I'm leaning Novick,
but haven't made up my mind yet. I'm no fan of Obama or HRC, so his remarks about them don't offend me.

What makes Merkley more progressive, and Novick less?

From where I sit, Obama and Clinton are both centrist/corporatist/3rd way/"new" democrats, so criticizing them is something a progressive might do.

6. He already had my vote.
I'm afraid it won't make much difference, Oregon is no different than any other state in that there is a powerful coterie that owns and runs everything and Novick is not favored by them.

Still, one can hope...
