just a little OT question

I live on the coast. I just got an email from someone in Medford. Business related, asking how far above sea level Florence is.

Is it just obvious to me? Or does it make sense to some of you other inland dwellers too?

Isn't dang near every coastal town built on a river at sea level? Is this not common knowledge in this state?

3. I'm a little worried too, if the Columbia and Willamette start rising...

If the seas rise, will it effect us in Portland? I've been too frighted at the thought to start looking it up yet. :scared:

4. Downtown PDX is about 50 feet above sea level.

I guess we won't be oceanfront, but I suppose a sea level rise might affect the Columbia and the Willamette.... I don't know if it would essentially be a permanent high tide or something more dramatic.

5. Sadly, Geography

is not some peoples strong point. I have a cousin who thought that Mexico was "across the ocean" from Oregon. I guess because she had been raised calling people from Mexico "wetbacks" she thought that meant an ocean and not a river.

I think it's interesting to stick my GPS on my dashboard and check out my elevation as I drive around Oregon and the West. We are heading to the Northern Sierras this weekend so I should see some higher numbers.
