Newly appointed Brecksville Police Chief Richard Mannarino questions the need to allow firearms in open air stadiums and places that serve alcoholic beverages.

On the stadium front, Mannarino says there is ample security and many avenues to get in touch with them should a problem arise. As for the other aspect, he commented that servers and bartenders might be less likely to get involved with diffusing situations, fearing that one or more of the patrons could be armed.

North Royalton Police Chief Paul Bican agreed that it’s a bad idea.

“Guns and alcohol don’t mix, period,” Bican said. “Never have and never will.”

Concurrently, Strongsville Police Chief Charles Goss stated that while he has not had the opportunity to review the legislation, he has heard hesitation from fellow public safety officials.

“I know there’s a lot of concern from a lot of police groups,” he said.
