So which OH Congressional D will we lose in redistricting?

I forget whether Ohio loses one or two seats this year. I'm figuring Betty Sutton anyway. But with the Rs sweeping statewide offices, they have a free hand at redistricting.

1. One in SE Ohio
The 6th (Wilson), 18th (Space) and 16th (Bocceri) all lost last night. One of these will go. The others will no longer be recognizable.

5. Why would they eliminate 1 of their own seats?

7. They don't have much choice.
If they try to draw out two democrats, the remaining republicans will have too many weak spots... leaving 3-4 seats open to a solid democratic year.

Their best shot is to sacrifice one of their own while hatcheting a Democrat... then strenghtening the existing (surviving) republicans.

The job becomes easier for them if a sitting Republican House member becomes the odds-on favorite to run for Senate.

2. Dennis will be drawn out of existance....
He will be forced to run against Marcie Fudge or Kaptur or Sutton....

3. I doubt that the GOP could gerrymander with 4 Dems and 12 GOPs
Ohio is going to lose two congressional seats, so we will transition from 18 to 16. Heck, having more representation in Colorado and less in Ohio might be a good thing.

The gimmick is to divide Columbus three ways with three majority gop districts. Cincinnati is easy to divide into OH-1 and OH-2, Bohener and Mean Jean.

They chopped Akron into thirds last time to snuff out Tom Sawyer, but Summit County was portions of successful Tim Ryan-17 and Betty Sutton-13 campaigns (Sherrod's district). There will always be two Dems from Cleveland/Cuyahoga County. The Mahoning Valley is so damn Democratic, that it would be hard to gerrymander those dems into oblivion.

46% of the electorate voted for Ted. We show up in too many places.

6. If OH loses two seats, at least one will have to be a Republican.
There's no way to draw Ohio with 13 Republicans and only three Democrats.

My guess is that Kucinich and Sutton are drawn into the same district and either fight it out (they would probably draw the district to favor Kucinich) or one of them runs for Brown's Senate seat.
