On puppet shows and touchscreens for Ohio
Edited on Tue Feb-05-08 09:17 AM by poli speak
Now that it has been determined that touchscreen Keno is okay because it is going to be "state regulated," I wonder if we can get touchscreen voting back instead of reverting to prehistoric OCR scanning and paper. Maybe we can get Joe Camel guys to sit outside all of the bars to keep smokers company. The puppet shows promoting the lottery could be inside with the families, since because smoking is not allowed, people bring their kids to Applebees and places like that now, and we could do a really, really good job of marketing to the next generation of gamblers.:sarcasm:

1. I particularly like this rationalization:
<<The governor said he distinguishes the new games from the video gambling machines outlawed last year because they will be "state-monitored, state-controlled and state-regulated." His spokesman, Keith Dailey, said the Keno game is much different from video slot machines outlawed last year, because numbers are selected in the fashion of other lottery games and winners are displayed on a video monitor.

"It's not like Tic Tac Fruit, where you sit in front of the machine all day pumping in quarters," he said.>>

Oh....NOW I feel SO MUCH better.

The closing of the pyschiatric hospitals is a very bad move. (See another thread on this forum.) I didn't know about the thumbs-up for Keno until I saw it on the front page of the paper at work. I saw it just after I found out about the Twin Valley closing in Dayton.

Sometimes, it's all just. too. much.

2. exactly, I watched Strickland, who I think is an honorable man, try to explain
this to the public television people for their piece on Sunday. He is exhausted. Like our SOS and AG, they are in over their heads. The incompetency makes my head spin, because that's exactly what the Republicans want, and I would bet my bottom dollar, they are they ones egging our D's on.

Just totally makes you want to shake your head and scream.

3. That's why I am angry and disappointed at the casino petition drive
Sorry, although I said in my other thread on this that I wouldn't fan flames, here we go again with the proposition that legalizing gambling here will be the panacea to everybody's problems. The thing is, with the way this state is going, I imagine there will be a lot more people suckered in by the promise of quick wealth (in all of its forms) this time around.

Strickland's Keno idea is cut from the same cloth. Quite sad, actually.

4. Sheep's clothing
sheep's clothing.

You know what I mean.

As someone who is AGAIN gearing up for Election Day shenanigans, everything I keep reading makes me sicker and sicker and sicker

And for the record, I hate to admit this because it is like talking smack about an Ohio Dem...I NEVER though Strickland was a real Dem....I have been frightened as hell about the "sheep's clothing Democrat." (so I don't feel TOO bad about the smack talk)

That said, why the HELL can't we:

1. Stay with the electronic voting machines with the following modifications

A. Modify the machines so that they actually spit out a "receipt" (for lack f a better word) that you as the voter take over to the old style box and put it in like you used to do paper ballots...THEN

B. REQUIRE a random percent of precincts to be counted via paper receipts versus precinct electronic machines. (Good business practice for anyone to do a random sample to make sure you are getting it right)

WHY can't it be this easy? For the love of GOD (oh wait, he is busy playing Keno):sarcasm:

5. I dont even think it's
sheep's clothing.

I trust Strickland because I trust Sherrod, and they are friends.

I think it's pure incompetence. He never should have been talked into running in the first place. It should have been Fingerhut, but Fisher's ego got in the way. And it should have been Kilroy for Secretary of State and Chandra for Attorney General. I watched with disgust as these people were marginalized and pushed aside, and in Chandra's case, it was pure and simple racism. Fisher made the deal to get all the Jewish money.

I am so sick of this crap; I guess the powers that be in the Democratic Party think that because it's okay for Republicans to do, it's okay for us, too. Only it goes against our principles, creeds and supposed goals. It is wrong.
