Johanns-Kleeb debate set for June 5
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

The boys of Boys State will provide the questions for the first scheduled debate between U.S. Senate candidates Mike Johanns and Scott Kleeb.

The June 5 debate in Lincoln is being organized by the American Legion Cornhusker Boys State.

Boys State is a weeklong government leadership program for about 400 high school boys. A similar program is held for girls, but they will not be involved with the debate.

Boys State organizer Aaron Zabawa said Monday that the boys will spend part of their week formulating questions.

Johanns and Kleeb will open with a few prepared remarks, Zabawa said. Then a moderator will read the boys' questions. Each candidate will answer and have an opportunity to criticize the other's answers.

The debate will be held the afternoon of June 5 at Kimball Hall on the city campus of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. It will be closed to the public, but press coverage will be allowed.

1. Kleeb way behind in polls

I can't find a way to initiate a thread, so I am adding this here:

From: http://www.electoral-vote.com/index.html

Read this at the above site, I have said all along I wish Kleeb had not thrown his hat in the ring in this election, as I doubt very much he can defeat Johanns. The long term result could be that Kleeb has no future in politics in this state:

On the Senate side, we have a couple of new polls. In Nebraska, Mike Johanns (R) is going to wipe out Scott Kleeb (D). Research 2000 puts Johanns 27 points ahead for the seat of the retiring Sen. Chuck Hagel (R).

2. Welcome to the DU

I was told at the monthly county meeting polling shows it is under 10%.

3. There was a Rasmussen poll on nebraskademocrats.org
which had the race at 55%-40% Johanns. That is not insurmountable.

4. It was a poll liked by the Democrats
Nobody is predicting that Kleeb will win. I hope he does, but I doubt he will.
