mn state statue 202A.14 needs to be modifyed ..please support !!!
mn state statue 202A.14

for those who don't reconize this state law, this is the law that dictates at to the date/time of our state caucus are to be conviened. as i see it the dnc as well as state conventions and presidential nominations are being pushed up earlyer and earlyer and due to this, this puts minnesota currently in what i call "the rubber stamp status". this stutus a. puts us in a position as being more or less"just a privit fundraiser only state. because by the time that minnesota conviens it's caucus's the decision has already been made. many have exprienced problem and have raised a concern at, the 2004
minnesota state caucus's. by changing our date to a more logical time, i feel we will reap several benifts. one of them is that as candidates emerge, they will be required (more or less)to spend more time then just a few privite fundraisers here and there "before" they wrap up any nomination and maybe get them to open pre-nomination
offices and spend some bucks and not just take in this state

another benifit is respect and othe concideration to minnesota, is as thoughts by big shot senators from other states or others concider running for office, many will have to ask themselves "what have i done for "minnesota" that warrents there support?did i assit them in aquiring the full federal support in their endevors have i bruaght any jobs to mn have i done any thing for minnesota

yet another benifit to modifying 202A.14 is additional revenue to the state of minnesota. with each candidate entourage comes media to cover these folks. they rent hotel/motel rooms eat and drink and spent money ect.. moreover this would also creat a better concideration for any dnc, rnc or xnc national convention which would bring in the equivelent of a 2 to 3 day superbowl size event to our state which again in turn would bring an additional revenue to the state of minnesota

so ...what i'm asking is , is for you support by contacting you st legislators and ask them to change on word in mn state statues 202A.14 date from march to febuary that all

1. Actually,the parties are free to hold their caucuses whenever they want to
as long as their national committee agrees to the date.

By holding them on the date mandated (a date agreed on by both major parties in the legislature), people who want to attend them must be given (unpaid) time off from work. Holding them on the mandated dates also reduces the costs charged by the school districts whose buildings are used for most caucuses. In 2000 the DFL decided to skip the official date and held caucuses on a Saturday. Big mistake, turn out was miserable.

No way either the DNC or RNC would agree to Minnesota hopping ahead of New Hampshire or Iowa and I doubt that either the Republicans or DFLers are going to buck their national committees on this one.

I don't think changing the date would matter. Once Iowa and New Hampshire are over the candidates are going to concentrate on the larger states no matter when Minnesota caucuses. When I first began caucusing they were held in late February and there weren't many primaries or caucuses ahead of us. We still didn't get a whole lot of attention.

I'd prefer we spend our time working to make the state as blue as it once was, rather than worrying about caucus dates and how much attention we get.

2. so.. why bother.....don't we care???
if things don't matter why bother conducting any caucuses if at all this state is just going to do is let the dnc and the rnc tell us when to to and whom to do and who where going to get. it just seems nobody cares if we want any say at all to who we want in as our presidential, senate or congressional candidates . right now we have little of no say as to whom we get a choice in presidential nominee's and now getting senate nominee's cramed down our throts even with in our own party

if we just change our causus date from the first tuesday in march to the first tuesday in febuary which would still allow iowa and new hamshire to be the first states. we "might" only be sharing the date with only one other state "arkansas"

it's no wonder why minnesota is treated like morons!!! we are
