My mother is at the age where she reads all the obituaries and found an odd line in one

"...X was a Republican Supply-Side Investor who believed in Free-Market Capatalism.."

Mom said she can't understand why his family felt the need to tell the world that the dear departed was an idiot (the guy was just a couple years younger than Mom and she is of the opinion that anyone who can remember the Depression should be a Democrat). It is also her opinion that the current economic mess, caused by supply-side, free market capitalism is probably what killed him.

1. He might've written it himself
I know people who've written their own obits and asked their families to publish. So perhaps Mr. Supply-Side insisted on this line in his obit.

I like your mother's opinion too!

2. She does claim to read them to get ideas for her obit.
Recently her favorite was one that had a line about the woman being met at the gates of heaven by her late husband who would be carrying a pitcher of cold martinis and two glasses. Mother liked the image of meeting up with my dad that way - though she's hoping he will also have some shrimp cocktails with him as well as the martinis.

3. i died recently... well, ok...
an obit appeared under my name in the pioneer press. only the middle initial was different.
people began calling while i was at work...Mrs Fats took some phone calls...
the first was an old friend, donna, who was checking out the news..Mrs Fats, having not heard from her in some time, got all sunshiny and upbeat to talk to donna.
"Ummm...how's MnFats?" she finally worked in.....wondering if Mrs fats was so gleeful to be free of me.

a friend of ours in Arizona saw the obit on line and cracked up. He was crying and called his mom, who goes to our church....and finally got the truth...
pretty wierd, though..

4. That is funny "wondering if Mrs Fats was so gleeful.."
One of my uncles had a similar experience. He lived in a small town and some guy in town with the same nickname died - but it around town that it was uncle. He hadn't heard the news whe he walked into the local "Chatterbox Cafe" for his morning coffee (as he did everyday) looked around at the crowd and asked "What's going on you all look like you saw a ghost."
