Legislator withdrawals support for Klobuchar, goes for Ford Bell!

Great news for the Bell campaign. Said something along the lines "it is easy to just toss support for the front runner early on" but is now backing Bell because he makes a clearer stance on issues including bringing troops home soon.

Rep. Alice Hausman, DFL-St.Paul, regarded as a liberal within her party, said she was endorsing Bell because he has staked out a clearer stance on issues of interest to Democrats than has Klobuchar.

"For a number of months I've been part of the political establishment that conveniently signed onto the front runner in the United States Senate race," Hausman said, referring to Klobuchar. She suggested national party leaders were meddling in the selection of a candidate for the Minnesota seat, adding, "I fear that insiders running slick campaigns with political operatives are part of the problem."

Earlier today I contacted my rep and let her know I was disappointed that she, too, jumped on the Klobuchar bandwagon and ignored Bell's campaign. Locking out candidates is not a good way to engage voters and party activists hungry for change.

5. I posted this in another Minnesota thread last night

but the it irked me so badly that I have to repeat myself.

It appears that the Klobuchar campaign has decided to assume that everyone is supporting her.

When I got home Wednesday evening I found a message on my answering machine from her campaign. According to the caller "Amy asked him to call" me because she's having a meet up/fundraiser event in my area in February and "she would like to list you as one of the cohosts" (more ranting on this later). The event is suppose to raise some enthusiasm for the caucuses and some money. The guy left a number so I could call him and get more details. So I called him back, but got his voice mail. I told him that they couldn't use my name and that I was support Bell and if he wanted more details on why to feel free to call me back. As of Thursday night, I have not heard back.

Now, back to he "Amy asked me to call you". That really annoyed me. To begin with, up until last Saturday, I hadn't made up my mind who to support in the senate race (though I was leaning Wetterling) and anytime I received a call about it I'd tell the caller I was undecided. Secondly, I can't think of any reason why Amy Klobuchar would (or should) know who I am - I never spent much time on her other campaigns and I can't really remember ever saying more than hello to her - but this is a clever ruse and I know people who would fall for it (these being the same people who were so thrilled when they'd get the mass produced DNC Christmas card "signed" by Bill and Hillary. Oh please, if you were on the SCC in any state you got this card they were sent to several hundred thousand of Clintons' closest friends.)

My question is, did they go through years of caucus and volunteer lists and figure I've been around so long I'm just another hack (okay, I am a hack) who's in lock step with the DNC and, because I've been around so long, did they think I'd believe Amy Klobuchar is personally looking for my endorsement? Or did they just think I'm a little cog in a big machine who would believe this and be thrilled down to the tips of my toes? I found the whole thing somewhat insulting and presumptuous. I've always thought Klobuchar was a good county attorney and my decision to support Bell was based strictly on issues not personality but, Im getting turned off by the arrogant attitude her campaign is projecting and I have to wonder how much of that is coming from the candidate.
