The Minnesota Supreme Court has ordered Sue Ek’s name removed from the Dec. 27 special election ballot.

Ek was the Republican candidate for an open House seat in District 15B. The decision came after a 75-minute hearing this morning. She was running against Stearns County Commissioner Larry Haws, the DFL-endorsed candidate.

On Friday, a lower-court judge ruled that Ek did not meet the residency requirement to run for the Legislature in St. Cloud. The Supreme Court agreed with the findings. State law requires a candidate to live within a district for six months. Ek signed an affidavit July 9 saying she lived in St. Paul.

7. Everybody click Goodhue's link and read the article
(keep your stomach distress bags handy).

Aren't there filing deadlines for these races? The article says Hatch says she can't run), but it doesn't say why. Though Kiffmeyer's office is "studying" the issue. No doubt waiting for Rove to call and tell her what to do.

6. But it's just DFL "partisan game-playing"
That's according to GOP Chair Ron Carey in today's letter to his GOPhonies minions:

Dear Friend,

On Monday, Republican endorsed candidate Sue Ek was removed from the ballot by decision of the Minnesota Supreme Court. While we were disappointed with the decision and the DFL's partisan game-playing, we have moved quickly to ensure the voters of St. Cloud have a choice in the special election on December 27..."

Sure, Ron, tell that to the Minnesota Supreme Court--or are they all "activist judges?"

8. Ha ha ha.
I don't even know how they can shovel that shit with a straight face. Somehow enforcing THE LAW is now "partisan game-playing."

Their party brokers should have known this law, and known that Ek didn't qualify, and picked another candidate ahead of time. They fucked up, now they have to pay the price.

Amazing how these "rule of law" Republicans get all whiny and equivocate when THEY break the law.
