Sarah Janecek:" Wellstone service saw grief, not exploitation"
Edited on Tue Nov-08-05 09:03 AM by Skinner
This was in Saturday's Strib and is another fine example of Republican hypocrisy. Sarah Janacek slapping Katherine Kersten for her nasty column on the Wellstone Memorial when Janacek herself was so quick to jump on that bandwagon makes me wonder if any Republicans are in touch with reality. You'll note she's still trying to spin the remarks she made about the close captioning like she said it in a vaccuum and nobody saw or heard the interview.

Perhaps old Sarah is getting worried about the image Kersten is giving Repukes.

Sarah Janecek: Wellstone service saw grief, not exploitation

Shame on Katherine Kersten. The Wellstone service was not a "miscalculation."

I went to the Wellstone memorial. One of Minnesota's finest civic traditions unbeknownst to many people is that Republicans go to Democrats' funerals and vice versa. It's about honor, respect and thanks for public service.

Never in my life had I experienced a crowd where you felt you could physically reach out and touch the different strings of grief, joy, passion, resentment and rage that together made the symphony that is raw and real human emotion.

And grief is grief. In that moment, Kahn and the 20,000 Democrats in the arena were in one of the five generally accepted stages of grief: anger (the stages were first identified by Elizabeth Kubler Ross in her book "On Death and Dying").

1. I remember her frothing right away on KARE-11
in the post-service discussion. She wasted no time later that night and every election since.

2. How odd that she should write this now, considering what she said then.

She was all frothing at the mouth about the memorial right afterwards, lying out her ass on local Hate Radio about how the organizers were using closed captioning to prompt the crowd, and going on about how horrible and partisan and scripted it was. Maybe she realizes how full of crap she was and feels bad about it now; or maybe -- more likely, I think -- she just wants to distance herself from the truly repellent Katherine Kersten, who really went off the deep end in that obnoxious column. I was doing some volunteer work at one of the DFL offices just before that election, trying to get out the vote for Mondale, and Al Franken showed up and got after Janacek on the phone to call her on her bullshit. I know what she said then, and it was 180 degrees from what she's saying now.

8. I had an email go round with Janacek over her saying
Cheney was no longer making money from Halliburton. First I told her she was full of **** (in so many words), then she told me I was (in so many words). I sent her links to articles about Cheney & Halliburton. My links included a blog, a Houston business journel and an article written by Helen Thomas. She wrote back mocking me for using the blog link and she had gotton her info from the New York Times. I wrote back asking for the Times link, and pointing out that I had not just used the blog and that she could hardly imply that Helen Thomas was not a "real journalist" (as she had with the blog.) Never heard back and I couldn't find any such article on the Times website.

3. Nice to see a Repuke smacking Kersten
but she also used it as an opportunity to try to clean up her own sullied reputation.

I've never trusted Janecek. She spins like a top.

5. The biggest story...
I am sorry to hijack your excellent post on Janesek's revisionist history...and I do hope we see several letters to the editor setting the record straight...she's a hack of the worst kind.

I do not have enough posts to start my own, but I was hoping someone with full-fledged membership to DU would begin one with this story...

9. Janacek clarifies she's a liar
Janacek says:
Kahn seemed to forgive me, too, for the too-much-publicized inelegant comments I made about closed captioning at the service. The myth that I don't understand how closed captioning works made me one of Al Franken's "Lying Liars." What a sorry waste of my 15 minutes of fame, but I digress.

So if she says it's a myth that she doesn't understand closed captioning, then Janacek is saying she does understand close captioning. So that means she was lying through her fucking teeth when she claimed the closed captioning at the memorial was audience applause cues. And so she certainly is one of the Lying Liars.

Anything else you'd like to clarify, Sarah?

10. I'll say her comments were "inelegant"
I have a few other words for it. Now it's all just a joke to her--oh, too bad, my 15 minutes of fame was wasted. boo fucking hoo.
